- Bike Checks
Africa’s biggest dirt competition was back again on the 6th at Potato Trails in Hout Bay. Lots of new additions & improvements were made to the trails & a serious list of international & local riders was added to this year’s event to make it the best one yet!
The Potato Trail locals had been hard at work preparing for months adding new lines & opening up loads of transfer options. A new feature to the line was a roll in tower to get speed for the line, which meant the riders could avoid the run up down the road, which helped the flow of riders & bangers stay constant.
During the week leading up to the event there were tonnes of fires all around Cape Town & a few build days were dropped to help some friends evacuate & build fire breaks, but luckily it all calmed down just in time for our madness to commence.
The crowds started to roll in after 7pm & as the sun set all the riders started to flow through the trails & warm up. Local shredder Malcolm Peters is at home at these trails & immediately got into the swing of things with slow double whips & his upside down dipped 360’s. Matt Priest was his usual stylish self & really was on form clicking his tricks past what seems possible. Hennon was whipping every direction imaginable & packing a load of tricks into each run, but the Mexican Machine Kevin Peraza was showing everyone that those ridiculous lines you can do in Pumped BMX are not all that far fetched & was putting on a show that trails in SA had never seen the likes of before & had the crowd screaming every time he dropped in.
The MTB guys had their session after the BMX, but unfortunately the finals were called off due to some wind picking up, but that meant best trick time! The landing was soft & stunt friendly, but know some of the BMXers were struggling with it & sinking in a bit, but that didn’t stop Peraza from doing one of his perfect super seaters for the crowd.
1st Kevin Peraza
2nd Ben Hennon
3rd Matt Priest
2015 Night Harvest was once again a pleasure to attend & all the riders had a great time in one of the most picturesque trail scenes SA has to offer. Looking forward to next year already!
