FATBMX was started in 1987. 34 'zines were published and the riders who were around back then will probably remember. In 1999 a step to the internet was made and our " We tell it like it is!" approach was appreciated. The monthly FATBMX mailing list kept the BMX community informed on all the latest news in BMX worldwide. Since 2004 we've stepped things up with daily updates. Our visitor base has doubled in 2006 and it doesn't seem to stop. We're not afraid to post things that won't make it on other websites so make sure you check out the FATBMX Pin Up section as well. www.fatbmx.com; the BMX network.

2007 FAT-JAM coming up! 18 August
We're fashionably late with this year's FAT-JAM info. In fact, if you organize a jam for the 19th year, you just turn on the automatic pilot; get your permission, hire a toilet and hope for Red Bull that they're sending a Defender so we have a decent sound. The locals have been busy shaping the new jumps. Yup, the spot has been completely modified for this year's jam. It's at the same location (Valkendijk, Aarle-Rixtel, NL) and the rules are the same (there are no rules). If you feel like having a session with some party animals, stack up your car with bikes, beers and bitches.

The sessions doesn't start before one in the afternoon leaving everyone plenty of time to get to Aarle-Rixtel. We've got a permit that allows us to make some noise between one and eight o'clock so expect some tunes (by JD Sinned) or whoever brings an i-pod with good music.

This year's special guest McGoo will be the head official in the Snafu 8.6 race. If you don't know what that entails, just come over. Good drinkers do have just enough chance for victory as great riders.

Feel free to bring your BBQ. The grocery stores are open until 5pm on Saturday 18 August so if you don't want to risk getting ill by bringing your own meat, you can buy it while you're in Aarle-Rixtel. They sell Bavaria there too.

The night program is open. Most likely we'll meet at OJA and go from there. Maybe we just stay there if the 1 Euro bottled Bavaria beers are doing their job. No cover charge anywhere.

We just visited the Liberation jam in Holland. It's off to Germany for a King Of Dirt this weekend and then we're cruising down South for the annual FISE contest (15-21 May). In June we have the Toer Dur Laarbeek going on and possibly 2 dirt events organized by Red Bull. We'll be dragging that laptop and camera gear with us so you can enjoy the latest in BMX. Better get ready.

BMX racing in Holland in 1956History class never appealed to me. I dropped it as soon as I could. When it comes to BMX history, it's a different story. You see I’ve always thought that BMX originated in the USA in the late sixties until I walked passed a bookstore the other day. On the poster in the shop window was a picture of two kids riding bikes at a “fietscross” in 1956. The photo was taken in St.-Anthonis, Holland 15 miles from the FATBMX office. I walked in the store, searching for the mag and found “Ach Lieve Tijd”. The € 4.95 cover prize was a steal for a piece of BMX history. A quick search for more BMX pics was a negative but a story about Motocross I found. It mentioned that the sport of Motocross was started in the Netherlands on modified Nortons, DKW’s and BSA’s. Seeing that there is a truth to this, it is acceptable to believe that there were kids around pretending they had motorcycles but riding their bikes instead.

Bicycle Motocross anyone?

It’s hard to beat the date of the organized BMX race on Queensday of 1956. The Bultaco’s and Montesa’s had not made it to the USA yet and Scott Breithaupt wasn’t even born.

New visitor records for FATBMX!
Dear FATBMX fan.
 
Back with another mailing. This time we've got some great news that the month of October 2006 has broken every record in the history of FATBMX. In October we built up a visitor base of 78.219 unique visitors who paid 168.516 visits to the FATBMX site. If you want to translate that into hits, it's 10.890.294 hits in Oct. '06. Over 10 million!
 
We're really stoked on this. It shows that we've got something to offer the BMX world and you want to come back for more because you know that there will be updates on a regular bases. You don't need to be a pro either to make it on FATBMX or live in sunny California to get an interview. We see BMX as a worldwide thing and your local event is as important to us as a big summer festival.
 
Our plans with FATBMX are to continue in the same way we have been running it. BMX needs a platform where riders can post their local jam info, where they can find places to ride, read some rider interviews, check contest results, hear how the industry is doing and watch some video clips. FATBMX offers that. We welcome worldwide contributions because we cannot be at 5 places at the same time. If it involves BMX, we want to hear about it.
 
FATBMX has been and will remain a free service too. You can pick your favorite articles to read and choose the video that you like to watch. No membership or password needed.  No crazy pop-up advertisements either because we know you hate those. We'd like to thank our sponsors for their support and understanding of the FATBMX concept.

FATBMX contributions welcome

At FATBMX we see BMX as a worldwide thing. We're based in The Netherlands so we can give you the scoop from over there. The internet has made borders disappear and it has become easy to contribute your local event to FATBMX. Instead of putting photos and a sheet of text in an envelope and mail it by post (yes we used to work that way), you now only have to type a bit of text, attach some photos an hit the send button.

We welcome contributions from all over. It can be spot checks, results, interviews, jam posters, press releases, BMX Bizznizz news, event reports, some worked out news and/or pin-ups. Basically we want to hear from you because without your work we would be just a local website. Thanks in advance.

    haha I moved down from Holland over to Canada back when i was 11 and i sure as hell didn't know bmx racing started there. Last time i was down there the bmx scene wasn't very big, I'm goin again this summer so I guess I'll get to see if it's changed up a little.
