I've been a mechanic and working at a bike shop for 8 yrs. I think that qualifies me to know a little more than you. And its true about weight over strength. These bikes nowadays might be built better but not necessarily stronger.

Well now a days with these 36 spoke wheels and lighter parts , people don't realize that with lighter comes weaker. I still ride 48 spoke wheels with 14mm axles. I refuse to use 36 spoke wheels as they will garuntee bend easier. When i started riding ... more »
