yea..i have had 4 pairs of profiles(3 minis,one elites) never had a problem with them ever, and im hard as fuck on my shit, pegless grings left and right..tight chain(usually)..could be you got bad ones(happens with US made stuff unfortunately)

hub guards are meant to protect the spoke heads, the spokes wont usually break on the spoke part, but the heads, and it make sure the hub stays frush
