Switch footed elbow glide OR $200!

This is a quick web video I made to fill my end of loosing a bet. I bet Robert Castillo, that my favorite NBA team, the Orlando Magic would win against his favorite NBA team, the San Antonio Spurs. The winner got to come up with a trick for the looser to learn, and the looser was given 2 weeks to learn it and get it on video, and email it to the winner.... or pay $200! I planned to honor this bet but I also felt very confident I could learn the switch footed elbow glide, even though I had never done one. I have done them with my regular foot for years, but switch footed means balancing with your oppisite leg! If you can do a hang five, try standing on the opposite leg and balance with your other leg, your weak and uncoordinated leg! Ha Ha! It's not easy, and my elbow got bruised right away, because the seat hits just above your funny bone, and you know how bad that hurts! So the footage in this video was shot at Cirque Du Soleil where my friend Marcos Paulo De Jesus rides and practices on his days off and after and inbetween his Cirque shows 5 days a week. The floor is hard rubber with a softer coating of black shiny rubber over that. Kind of slow, but a lot of fun. This was my first time riding in this spot, and it was definitely a challenge! I'm excited to go back and see if I can figure out the surface a little better! I'm stoked I don't owe Robert $200 but even happier about learning a trick I had never worked on before! It's an interesting way to learn something new for sure! Enjoy the vid! Kip

    BIG FOOT FLATLAND

I had plenty of time between demos at the FL STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL to ride some flatland on the flatbottom of the vert ramp. The problem is, it's only 16ft wide, slick as hell, and bounces like a trampoline! Not to mention you always have at least 100 sets of eyes on you anytime you're on your bike! If you are anything like me, you would rather just ride and set the bullshit aside! So here's a little something I was able to get on video! Who am I.... the emcee.

    FLORIDA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL DEMOS

This slide show includes photos taken at the FLORIDA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL Feb. 29th - March 9th in Plant City Florida. Riders include Rob Nolli, Trevor Meyer, and Austin Coleman shredding their BMXs, along with skateboarder Phil Hajal and inline skater Jaren Grob. On the bike and on the MIC was me. We did 3 shows a day for 11 days straight with only one show rained out, so that's a total of 32 shows, which seemed to go buy slow, until it was over! Time flies! Especially when you have nothing to do but play darts, eat, ride, or watch pigs named Britney Spare Ribs, Barack O' Ribbs Obama, and Arnold Schwarzenhogger race around a track! EXPN SNEAKERHEAD INTERVIEW

    Kip Williamson, Fellow Sneaker Head!
    EXPN.COM

As I said in my, Hot new kicks, Beloe Footwear, blog on Feb. 5th, a BMXer's shoes are pretty high up there on the priority list. Let's face it, the BMX shoe is part of the infatuation and obsession of the sport. So, while I too have been a little obsessed lately about my own BMX shoe assortment, I got to thinking about a photo shoot I did this past summer of Pro Flatlander, Kip Williamson (Sponsored by UGP). Just prior to getting started on the shoot, Kip popped the trunk on his SUV and pulled out a sweet pair of Nike, Dunks he picked out special for the photo shoot. To say the least, they were a pretty rad looking pair of sneaks! Obviously, they caught my attention and that was the day I learned just how big of a fellow Sneaker Head Kip really is. He is not only a true collector; his shoe fetish is part of who he is.

These are just a few shoes of Kip's massive collection. Kip takes his obsession to a whole different level! Photo by: Chip Riggs

EXPN: How many pairs do you own?
Kip: I don't know exactly, but right now I would say I own 100 pair of shoes. Approximately, 70 of those pairs are Nike's. I get this sickness from my Mom, who said she thinks she has over 500 pair of shoes! I guess I'm on my way! (Ha-Ha!) Other brands in my closet include Etnies, Creative Recreation, 4rce, Adidas, Puma, Kangaroos, Saucony, Gravis, and while I hate to say it, Quicksilver had some sick stuff a few years ago.

EXPN: How much do you spend a year on shoes?
Kip: Well, the more I make, the more I spend! Not having a truck payment and having low over-head means more buying TOYS and SHOES! I bought a lot of both this year! Right now, I average about 1-2 pair per month. Last month I bought 5 pairs of shoes!

    EXPN: What's your favorite pair?
Kip: My favorite pair changes all the time. If I get a new pair that usually becomes my favorite pair for at least a month. Lately, I've been getting so many pairs at once; they stack up in my closet untouched until the perfect moment. (Ha-Ha!) I have about 25 pairs I've never tried on. No need since they are all in my size. If the moment strikes me, and I feel like rocking a new pair, I'll go to the closet and come out with fresh new kicks! It's definitely a fashion thing that gets me psyched!

    Photobucket

EXPN: What's your most expensive pair?
Kip: I just spent $400 on a pair which is my record so far. I have several pair of shoes I bought at regular retail price, which are usually $90-$130 per pair. Down the road sometimes they go way up in value. The pair I bought for $400 has been sold out for about 3 years, so I had to pay the current street value. I had been looking for a pair in my size for the past year or so, and they finally showed up on eBay!

    Photobucket
Like Kip said, "It's all how it's presented, the rider, the music, the background, the editing, and the shoes." Best of all the trick he's doing is an, ENDO!!!

EXPN: What are the last non-pair of Nike shoes you've owned?
Kip: Etnies, I ride in Etnies every time and they are the best shoes for riding flatland. I currently ride the Rune Glifberg shoe, called the Forsvar. I've been riding that style for over a year now. They are super durable, perfect tread, look good, fit snug, lightweight, and make me ride better!

EXPN: Do you ride in every pair?
Kip: The only time I ride my bike in a pair of Nike's is for a photo. It's kind of fun in a way to think of the shoes as something that goes hand in hand with fashion and BMX. It all comes down to fun, and wearing a new pair of sneakers seems like the shit!

    Kip's Top 10 Nike Dunk's.

EXPN: What size shoe do you wear?
Kip: I wear a size 13! When I was younger I was very tall and always had big feet for my age. I'm only 5'11" so kind of weird I got these huge Bigfoot size feet! It doesn't help when it comes to flatland riding. If I had a size 9 it would help me out but having this big ass foot, sometimes makes it difficult on pivoting tricks. I have to get way out on the end of the pegs at times!

EXPN: Are you sponsored by Nike?
Kip: No, I'm not sponsored by Nike. It would be amazing if that happened! The 6.0 line is geared towards a younger crowd. The SB line is geared towards skateboarders. So, it would have to be the regular Nike division. I think it's possible if somebody at Nike saw current flatland riding they would be amazed and maybe want to be a part of it! It's all how it's presented, the rider, the music, the background, the editing, and the shoes. The possibilities even just collaborating on a future Dunk shoe would be a dream come true! I've got some dope ideas, so Nike if you're listening, can we please do a MASTER BLASTER shoe.... PLEASE?

    ANIME BMX FLATLAND ACTION FIGURE

    KotobukiyaFlatlandChick.jpg picture by kipbmx

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Rei Ayanami BMX FLATLAND Trick Pvc Figure The latest in the EVANGELION SHOUJO STATUE SERIES, coinciding with the tenth EVA-versary and REBUILD OF EVANGELION anime film projects. I almost shit my pants when I saw this toy on eBay a couple of weeks ago.  You can search your local comic book store, or go on eBay and pick one up for $29.99 - $38.99.  It comes in a killer box that displays the toy.  Unlike lame toys we've seen over the recent years, this toy is actually posed in a position that is authentic to the trick, known as the backyard.  One of the first scuffing tricks invented in 1987.  This trick is still considered to be somewhat timeless over the years because of it's closer more current version of the trick known as a lard yard. It's pretty cool to see something like this in a toy store.  These toys are somewhat rare if you are looking in a store.  Onine is the way to go for sure if you don't live in a city.  This toy is definitely something FLATLAND can be proud of!

    HOLLYWOOD FLATLAND JAM 9 - May 19th, 2007

    2007-04-08-0-36-30HOLLYWOOD-JAM-9-F.jpg

Hollywood FLATLAND Jam 9 is going down on Saturday May 19th, 2007!  Why is it called the Hollywood Jam when it's in ZUMA BEACH you might ask??  It's because Hollywood Steve, who isn't really from Hollywood at all, is organizing his 9th jam with the help of Diversion Video Magazine, INTRIKAT, Sick Child, and CREAM Magazine from FRANCE.  It's always a great time with plenty of riders making the trek to the parking lot.  If you get bored watching the action, you can always check out the hot young surf chicks that chill at the beach!  Regardless if you ride flatland or not, and regardless of your skill level, go check out the jam and have some fun!  It's not about the tricks you do, but how much fun you have doing it!

TICOS JAM 4 THROWS DOWN IN COSTA RICA FEB 11TH

    TICOSjam42007.jpg

Bobby Carter emailed me to say that Ticos Jam 4 went down last weekend on Feb. 11th 2007.  Chase Gouin, Scott Powell, Manuel Prado, Pat Schoolen from FLATLANDFUEL.COM, and Bobby Carter all went down there to ride and hang out with the locals.

You may have heard of the Ticos Jam in an older issue of BMX PLUS and/or DIVERSION in the dvd extras.  Bobby said the event was awesome and all the riders were stoked to share the flatland experience! Even Gino Stuart, a rider all the way from Amsterdamn, came out for the jam. Be on the lookout for a short segment about the event in an upcoming issue of Diversion Video Magazine.
