DAVE MCDERMOTT, BRYCE TOOLE, AND FRIENDS IN TALLAHASSEE
Last weekend, Bryce Toole, Dave Mcdermott, John Mahoney, and Conall Keenan headed up to Tallahassee to continue filming for the Madera video. Dave had nothing in particular to say other than some new spots were found and plenty of wild stuff went down. Here are the photos care of Bryce Toole's camera and one of the other three behind the lens...
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/bryce2.jpg
Back in March on the Profile Tally trip, McDermott went on a spot hunt and found some unridden stuff on top of a hill. This spot was right near it. Newly discovered on their end, Bryce Toole hops the rail.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/mahoney1.jpg
If you've been to Tally, you've more than likely have either driven past this stadium or have ridden something around it. Definitely an easy bust, John Mahoney hops the kinker.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/bryce1.jpg
Right near one of the oldest graveyards in Florida, this left side rail couldn't be any more perfect for sessioning. Bryce does it on the right--hop over 50/50.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/dave1.jpg
Not sure where this is going? You'l have to wait for the footage this winter...but you can get a grasp on how good this set up is. McDermott and some wizardry...

MORE INTERBIKE STUFF
We went to the show intending to make this McDermott V-2 hub a "limited edition" piece with a total of 20 or so thrown into production. But with the response we got, we might actually do a run of these in both front and rear and kick up the numbers to make the limit a little higher. We're really stoked on the way this came out.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/maderagraffitihub_650.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/maderagraffitishirt_650.jpg
The original idea was to have McDermott's new soft goods design match the wrap on the hub. Here's the original...these should be out in a couple weeks available in either grey or baby blue.
Here are the new Pivotal seats from Madera that will be available by the holidays.

John Ludwick made his rounds at the show passing out his new music project. I, as well as a lot of people, didn't realize how musically talented that dude is. Its bare bones--guitar, singer song writer type stuff but it pretty much blows out a lot of the stuff lumped in that genre. Contact him on myspace for some samples, you will be surprised.

Here's some photos by Jody Stoddard at Timeless Bmx. Somewhere in Massachusetts...Bill is real good at riding impossible architecture. It's good to have you back...

MIKE HINKENS LEAVES THE TAKE
Mike Hinkens is back on his bike and working on getting back up to speed. It appears that things are changing in a few ways for Mike as he has decided to part ways with The Take. He assured me that it was on good terms and that there was no bad blood; but rather a difference in direction seemed to dictate a change for him. I know that Mike is busy filming for his upcoming Madera section so look for some new pics coming up soon. For the time being, check out this photo of Mike this summer.

SOME NEWS FROM THE TEAM!
Walking Wounded
Here's a bit of news from the dudes:
Mike hinkens is out for a few weeks with various random injuries including a strained achilles, sprained ankle, and seperated ligament in his hand. He said he is healing up in anticipation of filming for his upcoming madera part. Stay posted for an edit of his trip with Grant c. to Colorado. And finally, Mike got a job teaching at his old high school, so have some kids and send them to Milaukee to get a good education from mike.
From McDermott:
"I fell the other day and my handle bar jab me straight in the thigh. I haven't been able to ride for over a week. I have a huge bruise the size of my entire thigh muscle. I also just started my internship. I now control the minds of young america."
Post Script-
Stop by the Madera/Profile booth at Interbike and check out McDermott's Madera v-2 art piece. We're getting them painted this week and we'll be taking pre-orders. I think at most, we'll do 25 total. I'll have to hold you in suspense for the finished piece. Stay Tuned.
John Ludwick just had his acoustic CD release show up in New Hampshire over the weekend. He said a ton of people showed up and the response was good. To celebrate, he went down to NY for the weekend to ride and accidentally left his bike at a friends house 6 hours from home. John's having a little separation anxiety....but will hopefully be reconnected with his bike soon.
Here's a preview of the new Madera product catalogue featuring Ludwick.

NEW DAVE MCDERMOTT INTERVIEW
I just spent a week with McDermott in Milwaukee. It’s always a good time, riding, catching up and B.S.ing. I put together an interview this week to catch up with his life and times. School, surfing, riding, and soon, the professional world.
Enjoy.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/madera_milwukee_trip_064.jpg
1.I know you’re close to a degree in Art education? How close?
-I will have my bachelors by Christmas.
2.With doing your internships, what's the response been from students to art in general? Do kids seem into it? Do they find value in the ideas of art?
-My first internship was with elementary students, so it was a challenge trying to present information in a way that the kids could grasp it. I think everyone enjoys art, but the younger kids are especially fascinated by it.
3.After graduation, what's next?
-Hopefully get a real job.
4.Surfing is something you've been into pretty heavily the past couple of years. How often do you head out?
-It depends on the seasons. Winter is more consistent with swell. I'll go once a week in the winter. Summer is generally flat unless a hurricane or depression rolls through. But they always produce the best waves. In the summer you will go a few weeks without surfing and then a cane will come through and you'll be out for three days straight.
5.What's the wildest thing you've seen out there?
-I think one of the best moments was when me and Mulville paddled out on a glassy day. The water was real clear and all of a sudden about 25 dolphins swam right under and around us real slow in about 6ft of water. It was amazing and I was scared.
6.Any situations with sharks?
-Look it up. New Smyrna beach is the shark attack capitol of the world. That is one of the best breaks in Florida and probably where I surf the most. My girlfriend was there yesterday and a shark nailed the bottom of her board when she was standing next to it in the water. It is more rare to go there and not see one. We were out at Cocoa one day and this huge shadow was cruising up the beach right at us. I think it was a bull shark because they are real fat. It was getting way too close and there weren't any waves coming for us to get in. We were so far out. I started to freak, and then finally one came.
7.Living out in Orlando the past three years, has it been better for riding as opposed to living in Bradenton for most of your life?
-It was a great change because the spots back home were getting really old. Orlando has a lot more to offer as far as street riding goes.
8.You planning on getting out of there soon?
-I'm not sure where I will end up once I graduate. I might have to move for a teaching position, but I’m definitely staying in Florida. I'm too tropical to move up north.
9.People think of you as this rail boss, but have no clue you're pretty well rounded as your able to ride park and trails as well...I know you started out riding this stuff as street came later. What veered you towards street?
-I think I rode street before anything. I would ride my bike all over town and jump shit and steal cigarettes. I never had any money to pay for skate parks and the closest one was an hour away so I didn't make it over there too often. We would have sets of trails here and there, but they would get plowed and the Florida sand prevented us from building new ones. I kind of think I just rode ramps and trails because I thought I was supposed to. I always loved street and I remember when Don't Quit Your Day Job came out and how I was psyched to see guys riding like that.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/_MG_5036.jpg
10.Did it have anything to do with limited spots and limited people to ride with in Bradenton?
-I don't think so. The spots are not all that bad. Me and Conall would drive around all day and find the good set ups.
11.Actually, what was it like growing up riding in Bradenton?
-It was good. Looking back now I think it had a lot to offer. I think there are worse places to grow up and ride. And Sarasota was 10 minutes away with more good spots so it wasn't all that bad.
12.Out of your recommendation, we added Bryce Toole to Madera this year. What's your favorite story about Bryce?
-When he was hitchhiking to NYC or somewhere and took a dump truck on a joy ride.
Best five:
1.Best three Movies:Dumb and Dumber, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and Monster Squad.
2.Best three surf spots in Florida: Anna Maria, Spanish House, and New Smyrna.
3.Best three carbonated drinks: Postobon, Wild Cherry Pepsi, and Natty Ice
4.Best three spots to ride for hours: Albertson’s ledge, the ditch, and Tampa pyramids.
5.Best three spots of all time: That’s way too hard!

SECOND NEWS POST FROM THE MADERA MIDWEST TRIP!
Somehow we not only beat the rain that has been sweeping across the midwest, but we caught unseasonably chilly weather for Wisconsin through the 4th of July weekend. There were points when we were actually cold during the day. That is until Monday morning, when cloud cover unleashed a fair amount of rain and plenty of lightning. Lucky for us, it cleared up by noon, not lucky for us, the sun began to rage making Milwaukee as hot as Florida.
On my part, filming was simple with the team. At any spot, I just pulled the camera out, turned it on and pointed it in any given direction where either Ludwick, McDermott, Eilken, Kocsis, or Hinkens were sessioning. Too many great spots to list, too many amazing things pulled. We'll save it for the video. Overall, we mixed up the many amazing sessions with trips to "Noodles," plenty of greasy spoon diners, and too many heated games of grand theft auto.
Thanks to Casey, Hinkens, and all their roomates for the hospitality. Grant Castaluzzo and Tony Malouf for filming and showing us how to properly ride a bike. Nate for his help as second driver. Kevin Porter for being a guide in Chicago. And Jeff K. for tagging along and getting us into 4 seasons.
The Madera Milwaukee/Chicago roadtrip (July 3rd through July 7th):

Milwaukee Court house. For about an hour we rode these medians. At one point, Hinkens said "of all things to ride in Milwaukee, we're riding curbs."

Thanks to Madera for making this happen...don't let anyone tell you there's nothing to ride in Milwaukee.

FIRST NEWS POST FROM THE MADERA MIDWEST TRIP!
The Milwaukee trip has been pretty amazing so far. Three days down between Milwaukee and Chicago. Two days left between the Milwaukee ghetto jam and a day trip to Madison. So much wild stuff happened the first day we could have ended it then and everyone would have been stoked. But it just keeps getting more wild. Here's some photos until I can do a more in depth report. We're off to set up the ghetto jam....
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/macdermottelbow_534.jpg
Mcdermott's first rail out of the gate was dialed. Unfortunately, the landing was absolutely terrible. First day of the trip, a couple hours in, hello gravel.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y63/mhinkens/spentmunitions_800.jpg
Kevin Porter showed us around Chicago on Saturday. The first spot he took us to was a school deep in the cut. We're assuming the locals got too drunk to finish shooting off their fireworks...they left a grip of them for us to light off.

Degroot just spent a couple days up in Pittsburgh with Bryce Toole, Jeff Smee, and Mulville. Besides wild times, some unconventional riding went down on some standard Pittsburgh spots. Bryce Toole: nomad, man of inner peace, and steel toe cowboy boot supporter.

JOHN LUDWICK AND HIS BAND!
My band (how near how far from you) just finished our 4 song ep called "The Loved & Lost ep" over the 1st of June. We are really psyched on how it all came out and you can hear two of the songs on our myspace (3 by this sunday) at the link above. We are in the midst of playing a bunch of shows and getting the cd to everyone we possibly can. We are also trying to get back on our feet financially so we can get a van and trailer and be able to start touring.

If you'd like a copy of "The Loved & Lost ep" please send us a message on our myspace and we will gladly get on instant messenger and send the songs to you!
