I shoot on the Tamron 17-50 2.8 for a standard zoom and it rules. I don't remember what made me pick that one, just read a bunch of good reviews I guess. The tokina 11-16 is awesome as well

Millimeters (mm) on lenses typically refer to the lenses focal length. This is the distance behind the lens in which the light is brought into focus.

This effects the magnification and depth of what you are viewing. Long-lens versus wide versus ... more »

Not exactly what i was looking for for the Photo/Video section, but definitely an awesome idea.

Glidecams can definitely be cool if used right. I went through a phase of wanting to shoot everything glidecam for sure, but I actually don't use mine that much anymore. It can quickly get overdone if that's all you do. I only use mine in situations ... more »

I've used the 11-16 and it's a sweet lens. Very robust for the price and is pretty wide at 11. Very little barrel-distortion, so it is by no means a fisheye, but still very useful on a Glidecam or in a tight-squeeze. Do you have any examples ... more »

I've been thinking about bringing some cool video content to the site, but I wanted to see who would be interested in checking it out, and also what you would want to see. Things we commonly do for general BMX like pro Q&A's, how-to's, set-up checks, ... more »

My favorites for sure. Simon, Navaz and Stroud

I mean its quite barreled at 8mm, but with a lot of vignetting. When you zoom in enough to clear the edge of the frame, a lot gets taken out.

It's crazy how little distortion that lens has though. The fact that they got the optics that wide and still so clean looking is astounding. I like a bit more distortion in a fisheye though, so I don't know if I'd pay the price for it.

The 50 1.4 was my choice due to the metal mount and tad better optics. Having such a wide aperture definitely helps in low light and when you stop down around 2.8-4 you can manage a lot of sharpness, while still keeping a shallow depth-of-field.

Which 50mm did you get? For $80 I'm assuming the Canon 1.8? I have the 1.4 and it is definitely my favorite lens.

nice! what are you shooting and editing with?

This idea sounds doable then. I'd say lets do that. Any reasons why not to? If this is what we are going to do I would definitely like to have a decent amount of participation, so we need to spark interest.

This is a awesome idea. I was thinking do a contest about one certain aspect of filming, and this one may be a little harder for the guys that don't actually own cameras. Who wants to do something similar to this contest?

How many people are down to do a film contest?

filmer contest

Yeah it wasn't an awesome move on Apples part. Talking to some of there guys makes it sound like they were trying to help the prosumer market. The issue with that is because of how streamlined the film process is now, the prosumers are working the exact ... more »

Final Cut Studio. I dabble in After Effects too, but mostly just FCP 7

New thread Video Contest 2/17/2012 3:33 PM

I'd like to start doing video contests on here. Bring in some more talent and maybe get some prizes flowing. Any ideas on what we could do? I'd obviously like it to be filming based as opposed to riding based, stuff for the filmers.
