Vert is something that takes time and determination. It's not going to be instant gratification like some other things in life. The idea to have this vert weekend was sparked by a friend who wasn't allowed to enter the Dew Tour Open Qualifier, and Kevin Robinson and I decided to change that outcome for next season. About 36 people attended the Vert Weekend at Woodward complete with new school, ten-year-old kids all the way up to DMC at 40 years old. The goals for the weekend were to: -Determine a smaller vert ramp size for Ams to ride
-See if it's possible to run Amateur vert comps around the US
-Get the pro vert riders to stick together, agree upon things like ramp designs and size, to get things done the way we want, and show an example to younger riders how to get things done.
-Show young vert riders what we've learned over the years to benefit them.
-Most of all, to have fun riding vert with everyone
The main reason for the weekend was to have fun and some good riding sessions. We accomplished our goal because everyone that showed up had a lot of fun and learned a few things they were able to take home with them. There were some first time flairs done on resi and a few days later I got an e-mail from one of the riders saying that he landed his first flair on a real ramp. Overall it was a great weekend, rumor has it there will be another one next year... —Chad Kagy
