I’ll be honest; when Kevin Robinson started trying the double-flair a few years ago it scared me to death. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted him to pull it, but at the same time you never want to see your friends get broken off. Contest after contest Kevin went to battle with that trick, and as everyone knows, he nailed his first one at the X Game this summer.
Fast-forward to last night at the San Jose Dew Tour. After Kevin was done with his second run he was still on the deck of the ramp. At one point I looked up and he gave me a look, pointed at the ramp, and basically said, “Two setup airs and I’m doing it.”
He took a few warm-up airs in between people’s finals runs, and when the contest was completely over, he rolled in and blasted the trick perfectly. High, smooth—perfect. This was not in the contest and there was no trophy involved. Kevin just decided he wanted to get the trick done, and he nailed it.
Congratulations, Kevin, and thanks for letting me get the sequence. —Losey
