Is there a thread that teaches you or give you tips on how to setup/build trails?

its in the how to section,

was hoping a 2012 thread would show up.

trails are not skateparks, they exist solely from the work and dedication of local riders. so next time you start complaining about not having local trails to ride, you only need look at yourself.

one of our first new builds for 2012...

Don't be afraid to put in work. only put quality dirt into your lips and landings.

How steep the lip is depends on what you want. low and long jumps will be less steep than booter/style jumps.

1/15/2012 8:59 PM

yea i know what you mean by putting work into them we try mixing clay to make the lips harder
we want some steep boster/style jumps but the problem is that we dont have large gaps in between them and we shovled into the ground in between the landing and the take off.. we call them banzi's so we cant move them back sssooo we want to know if we should make them taller and steeper

Read the trails thread in the How To section. Building is trial and error. you can move anything you want, so if is not right, rebuild it. That's part of not being afraid to put in work. Find a jump/gap at your local park and try to copy that.

a tree fell across lines. This is perfectly on the landing...

You're going to have trouble getting people to tell you where trails are in Raleigh, your best bet is to ride sk8 Cary at the 8-10 session and to ride the Crabtree park jumps, you might also want to check out the trianglemtb.com forums.

This is going to sound so stupid, but why is this considered "trails season"

Yea that's what I have been finding. I went and checked out SK8 cary last week, it was a pretty cool place, unfortunately you have to pay to ride but it's whatever. I'm definitely going to have to check out Crabtree.
Thanks for the info on the trianglemtb forums though man.

For some people (depending on location) it rains alot more than normal so it's prime time for building with wet dirt.

also go to marsh creek park, its free but there's no lights and sometimes the cops kick you out,

im sorry i can't really tell you where the other sets of trails are, i would if i were in charge of them but thats up to other people.

also in the south its the winter but in the north its the summer,

basically

south= too hot, dirt gets dry

north= too cold, dirt enters freeze thaw cycle, which can kill.
