A SERIOUS thread about weight savings.

10/28/2013 6:50 PM

Okay, so this is a serious thread. Not being sarcastic. My bike weighs around 24 which is pretty light. But, i've noticed when I ride a bike with the weight a little on the lower side, i'm so much cleaner and everything is so much cleaner. I'm super skinny, and especially weak in the upper body. I'm 5'8" and 110 pounds if that shows how skinny I am. I really want to effectively shed a LITTLE weight off my bike in a good, and proper way. No, i'm not gonna buy all Ti everything but I just want to now what I could do to slim my bike down. I've heard wheel weight is the most effective. Maybe trading my 30oz tires would be a start? Aha. I've never been a weight whore, but I think shaving a little weight would be a hella lot easier on myself, and improve my riding. I've tried eating more than I already do, and i've tried working out a small amount a week. Not working.

Just keep riding, you'll build up the strength eventually. I know that probably isn't the answer that you want to hear but it's the truth.

10/28/2013 7:00 PM

Tyres for sure. I remember when I first got Demo Momentums to replace stock tyres the weight difference was pretty noticable.

10/28/2013 7:02 PM

Tires is a great start. are you still running pegs freddy?

Tires would make the biggest difference, even a few ounces will since rotational weight is the most noticeable

Riding over 2 years now. It runs in the family. So far it seems i've been following my grandfather with growth and what not. He was just as skinny as my age and grew out of later on.

Guys , he's serious ! Don't fuck with him !

Jk , try getting lighter rims and tires because some "rotational weight" or shit like that. Hmmh hollow bolts and spindle will help , Premium Sub 10 stem , light cranks , and double butted spokes.

Yes sir, got butchers. I hate having pegs on, but I love grinding so they're staying. Pegless feels so clean too.

If you ride mostly park , pick up some lighter tires. Lighter means thinner so I wouldn't trust it on street. If you don't grind alot or at all, get double butted spokes. If you do grind, put double butted spokes on your non grind side. My friend drilled holes in his rim inbetween spoke holes (like a fly rim) and rode it super hard for ages no problem. I guess it would make sense that it would barely effect it structurally however I wouldn't suggest it. If you're not hard on your rims you could try it, I'd do inbetween every other hole or two holes though. Or just get fly rims. You can find some light hubs also that are just as good as the rest. Just look for 6902 bearings or larger with the specs you like. Aluminum center axles on female hubs will save you weight if you're light on them. Try cutting unneeded seat post off. Hollow crank spindles are great too.

Life behind bars.

Wasn't going that deep, aha. Just trying to shed a little weight. And was making sure to be clear that I wasnt trying to be sarcastic or that I want mommy and daddy to buy me everything Ti.

I want to try smaller tires anyways. Like 2.10. I'm over the whole giant tire thing. How big are TWW-R 2.0?

I'd go tires, then seat, see if you can get a race seat if you don't sit much on your bike.

10/28/2013 7:15 PM

Start by going to the gym. Or ride a DJ and then come back to bmx and they feel like flix trix LOL. Just get lighter tires then , and start with little things like hollow stem bolts. And take anything unecessary off your bike , like spacers and stuff.

Well i'm getting new cranks. I'm getting Thunderbolts, which I just found out are pretty light. I guess because they're 2 piece. But i'm not gonna start giving strength up for weight. I'm not drilling my rims or any of that shit.

If you buy light tires you probably wear them out really fast grinding ledges. I think I remember you saying you rode 4 pegs

Thin tyres for the fucking win, after I switched to 2.10 tyres I don't even understand why people even run fat tyres anymore.

Thin tyres:
- No rubbing on grinds therefore no damaged sidewalls
- Lighter

Fat tyres:
- Rubs on grinds
- Slows you down on grinds when the tyres rub
- Heavier

I run wide tires for the extra balance, and to stop me from hitting my rims in grinds

Hit the weights
Garret did a 180 fakie ice to 180 out down a rail with the way heavier mid school bikes AND he looked like he was 14/15 years old looking
I'll say it again, hit the weights and don't start blaming the bikes weight

It's sad when everyone takes the side of the pathological liar.
i bet he doesn't even tighten the bolts because he just tears it down after building it.

I'd be on them if they weren't dented and beat.

Cut down your axles
Cut down your seat post
Cut down your bars
Cut down your forks
Lighter tires & thinner tubes
Slim seat
Titanium parts
Hollow parts
Lighter parts
Plastic pegs
Plastic pedals
Increase muscle mass
Decrease bodyfat %

I think that's all you can do really without drilling holes in your shit which is just stupid anyway...don't do that.

This, but fresh treads are a pretty simple way to lose a little weight.

If you run 4 pegs, try just 2 for a bit?

Plastic pegs on the less used side helps.

Lighter tubes too.

No valve caps.

Alloy axle nuts.

No pegs for a while to learn air tricks

No hub guards (or plastic hub guards)

I am sick and tired of the "cliques" that this sport has recently developed. We should embrace the fact that we all ride a little kids bike, and not worry about the small details. When you take riding in its most basic form, we are all the same.
