United is a popular brand with an amazing team which includes Nathan Williams,Corey Martinez, and Christian Rigal. All of them are top notch riders.
There products are high quality and aren't made cheap. You can expect it to last quit a bit for a stock bike. As for aftermarket parts, they have the basics ; tires, pedals, grips, etc as you move up to top end completes. If your looking for the most amount of custom parts, this isn't your bike, but since your nephew is a beginner he won't need them. As he progresses he can upgrade when he starts to break stuff, but just cause it's stock doesn't mean it's bad.
In all,you get a high quality beginner bike for a good price and that's gonna make him stoked to ride. It's got a pivotol seat, nice topload stem, and 3 piece cranks. If I was him I'd be pysched.
