5/14/2008 4:19 AM It's not that hard! If you are good with tools, and can use common sense, you can do it.
This site will walk you through every aspect of it..... http://www.sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html#lacing One thing to keep in mind though, on the fly rims, you want to cross lace them to get maximum strength. Go from one side of the hub to the OTHER side of the rim. http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/spokecalc/ The above site has an excellent spoke length calculator, You will need to take accurate measurements in Millimeters. If that's too complicated for you, your local shop can probably come up with the right spokes if you bring the rim and hub, or you can call danscomp, etc. and give them the specs. keep the nipples all threaded on the exact same number of turns, and your rim should start out very close to true. |

5/14/2008 5:14 AM No problem... I added the spoke stuff for extra benefit, since you already have spokes. If you ever build up more wheels, it can be helpful.
Take the time to screw each nipple on the same amount.... that's the key to starting out right. |

5/14/2008 6:14 AM Do them in groups of 9.
Start with the "trailing spokes" (the ones going in from the outside of the hub) on one side, then the same on the other. Then you do the "leading spokes" (from inside the hub). These are the ones that cross over 2 then under one. Read through the directions a couple of times on that site, it will become clearer if you do. |

5/14/2008 4:23 PM Nice! Don't forget to check 'em after a few rides... the spokes will settle in a bit and need some re-tensioning.
And YES, you start with the spokes on the outside... MUCH easier that way. Going the other way would be very hard. |

5/16/2008 5:52 PM Spoke length depends on many factors. Not all hubs have the same flange height.
Lacing wheels is not that hard. Especially considering how much instruction is available online. BUT, if you are not at all mechanically inclined, take the advice of the no0bs here, and take them to a shop. It's not really something the clueless should attempt. |
