hello im new to BMX, as in I have owned a BMX before but it was your typical K Mart BMX but not a actual "BMX branded" one.

i am planning on getting one in the next week or so and i thought i might be able to get some advice or personal experience recommendations on here.

this is the Eastern Reapers link
http://www.easternbikes.com/products/completes/2012/88

this the link for the eastern Shovelhead
http://www.easternbikes.com/products/completes/2012/93

Kink Liberty link
http://www.kinkbmx.com/bikes/2012-bikes/liberty

and the link for the Kink Whip

what do you all think?

what about KINK?

I'd go with the Reaper. The TT is bigger ( 21 " ) which is recommendable for taller riders. It also has all the stuff the kink has + Double wall rims and a fat seat ( its more comfy then a flat seat, those make your butt hurt lol )

The Kink is very nice too, but if you have the money the Reaper is a better bike IMO. Also, Eastern had a batch of reapers frames in the past with crappy weldings and those all broke. They fixed that and now they offer lifetime warranty, so dont worry

Oh and the Shovelhead is a not so high end bike compared to the Reaper, so its also cheaper. Again if you have the money, the better stuff wont hurt anyone, but the Shovelhead wont disapoint you either

really?
can anyone else confirm this about the reapers frame welding being improved on?

12/29/2012 7:13 AM

update: I have found a kink 2012 liberty for about the same price as well

12/29/2012 7:15 AM

if ur a beginer u wont crack it, i cracked it when i done a flare and the rear triangle twisted and it cracked in 2 places

Yea it was like 2008. All the Eastern hate threads are from like 4 years ago. They really stepped up their game now

But really dude, get the bike you like the most ( looks and colour wise ). Unless its a WTP Envy or an Wifi ( those 1k+ dollar completes ) they will always have parts that will crack with usage

Then you just need to go replacing the parts that crack. All those have full crmo frames so you can keep the frames and change what breaks on the way

12/29/2012 7:18 AM

Idk if ur open to other suggestions but if I were you I'd get a subrosa arum xl

i used to like pork till i found out it came from cops...

12/29/2012 7:20 AM

subrosa will be much better, then eastern or kink

12/29/2012 7:37 AM

i just looked up a couple of Subrosa bikes but I dunno.
I like the look and colors of Eastern and Kink more, is the difference between these 2 and Subrosa major?

I might add Im not going to be pulling out some high aerial movesor anything extreme.
just crusing around in the neigborhood and pulling off light tricks in the BMX park

12/29/2012 7:38 AM

im pretty heavy in weight as well, I am about 225 lbs

12/29/2012 8:26 AM

whats your price range? there's alot of nice compleates out there. check out the fit wifi, its one of the best compleates out there. also even though 90% of the people on here hate them, check out vein bmx. they can have some big sales.

nah dont go with subrosa. Look at WTP bikes then, they have the best looking bikes around.

And also, whats your budget?

12/29/2012 8:54 AM

Kink liberty is a damn good bike, look into Fit and We The People. i personally suggest staying away from eastern completes, their highend stuff is nice though.

Well I'm from Australia so the Currency is going to be different, but I'm looking for bikes under 500 dollars

Id say you go with the kink liberty

12/29/2012 9:12 AM

Honestly i'd go Kink, i've had both brands and i just like the reliability and customer service that Kink has to where Eastern in general is pretty questionable...too many horror stories with their customer service for me to go out and pick up another Eastern bike when there are other companies with a really good reputation.

Get a Standard frame and build it up, you won't regret it

Kink liberty the way to go my friend had the grim reaper but in chrome it rusts easily and his cracked bad

Dear Sunny,
This is Jon. I co-own Eastern.

I'm assuming your looking at 2012 models vs. 2013 because that's where your links point to. The reaper is your best bet as it has 48-splined cranks (all the other models have 8-splined cranks). Also, the Reaper has a Helix downtube (hydroformed internal cross bracing) - it should handle just about anything you want to do.

Our customer service is second to none. Each employee is committed to making sure you are satisfied. Anyone complaining probably hasn't called us.

Regarding the problems with the first production run of grim reapers. The maker didn't weld under the downtube gusset. And yes, they started breaking. We contacted each customer, gave them a replacement frame and when the new grim reapers came we gave those customers a new grim reaper. This was like 6 or 7 years ago. The problem has long been resolved. The grim reaper was meant as a light weight frame. The reaper is a beefier frame.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you.

get the liberty! I still got mine holding strong 100% chromoly, great geo, just one of the best bikes for the price!

Dr.Pepper is the shit, i wish i was sponsored by it, but then id get diabetes....

Asking which brand is better on vital is like asking people on the street whats they favourite sports team... everyone will have a different opinion, mostly based on personal experience in this case

Remember that no product no matter what brand makes it is safe from normal wear and tear. I doubt you will break anything whichever bike you choose, but atleast if you break the reaper Jon here will prob give you a new one :D

12/29/2012 2:42 PM

The Kink Liberty is probably the best one out and your topic for the price. Everything is sealed and fully chromoly. If you decide on getting the 2012 Liberty, you might wanna switch out the tires first thing cause they suck.

Most up-to-date/latest bike check.

Bought from: adam1234, tomdon (2), oscarbmx, the balt, smokesmokesmoke

Kink is a great brand. If I were to choose a complete it would be Kink or WTP. I wouldn't recommend Eastern. While their frames, forks, and bars are better now, all the parts they come with are absolute garbage, even for beginners. A Kink would be your best bet, Liberty or better. Good luck getting started

Your flying through the desert in your canoe, and your tire pops. How many pancakes does it take to cover a doghouse?
None silly! There's no chicken bones in applesauce

12/29/2012 10:42 PM

go with fit bro thats your best choice

12/29/2012 10:53 PM

Id go with kink liberty, still have mine from 2010 no damage and I weight 94kg, I did change some random parts but they weren't expensive.
