The casino and stereo are pretty cheap, but being new to BMX brands, I'm not sure how good or bad Stolen compared to Eastern or Kink...

Damn..

I really want the liberty or kink, but ever since I started the thread, the stores that sell them for the price have been closed for New Years and they open after tomorrow. I'm hoping the bikes will still be in stock.

Just one more thing, how about eastern and kink starters like curb, launch, piston etc.

How do they go up against each other?

Whatever you get, make sure it's chromo and a good brand. I'm about 40lbs heavier than you, and started on a Redline Column, which is their high end bike. In the bmx world, as a big boy, you may not wanna trust just any bike. I don't know your age or money situation, but spending a few hundred more now on a solid complete can not only save you money on parts, but can also save your ass.

Refs: Tito24, RiverSideRider, Stussy, Nettyspaghetti, Daniel24, Freddydapice, BrokenBMX, SuperstarDK, HardBMX_Tim. There's more, but I'm too lazy to look them up, haha.

ok so this is where i am at

im leaning towards Kink Whip or Liberty 2012, but I just found out the Liberty 2012 has no brakes, but they come with some generic calliper brakes, is this easy to install?

my back up bike if none of these are in stock is a Premium solo plus 2011, are they any good?

so I just need to know two things.

can brakes be installed on a kink liberty 2012?
and
is the Premium solo plus 2011 any good?

thanks and i really appreciate the help

Yes you can install brakes. And I believe the solo is mainly hi ten steel frame. Not so good.

oh, so you CAN install brakes? phew

I was reading threads from a couple of years ago about how you had to drill holes in it.
did kink fix it up or something?

you can install brakes on any bike that has a bridge between the seat-stays, you just drill a 3/16" or 1/4" hole and get some bulldog style brakes.

Is that the only way to put brakes on the liberty?

I don't want to screw up the frame or void the warranty or anything

no, the liberty has the hole you need but there are some frames that don't have anything so you have to drill it yourself.

you can use the existing hole in your frame to run this:

http://www.danscomp.com/489057.php?cat=PARTS

which will allow you to run U-brakes which are better than side pull brakes

I hope so.
This thread says otherwise...
Maybe it was only with older models of the liberty that required drills?

really?

i have someone telling me yes and someone saying no!
lol

from what I know, it comes with generic caliper set, which I assume are brakes, for safety requirements.

but what I want to know is, do they require drilling the frame or anything to install?

There should be a hole in the frame to install them. However they aren't great at all as they are Sidepull Style ones, and aren't even really designed to be used, they just have to be supplied by law.

I'm pretty sure you can't use Brakes on it.

lol

from what I know, it comes with generic caliper set, which I assume are brakes, for safety requirements.

but what I want to know is, do they require drilling the frame or anything to install?

There should be a hole in the frame to install them. However they aren't great at all as they are Sidepull Style ones, and aren't even really designed to be used, they just have to be supplied by law.

but they still would work (at least 30 percent)? right?

also whats the best way to stop on a brakeless? I heard you can just push the pedels the other way causing the bike to skid. is that true?

Yeah they would work, just not very well.

The best way to stop when Brakeless is to put a Brake on... but seriously, no that definitely doesn't work unless you had a Coaster Brake or Fixed Gear, which no modern BMXs have. The best way to stop brakeless is putting your foot on the ground or in the back tyre. An even easier way to stop brakeless is to hit a wall, but that can sometimes hurt.

Grinds are super easy and enjoyable. get yourself a hubguard from the local shop (FBM, Shadow) to help save your wheelset. learn how to fakie by "running" into walls and then pulling off and pedaling back. then learn to 180.

That's cool.

I remember when I was a kid (14) and I got into the Tony Hawks Underground 2 video game. So I tried skateboarding and went to do a grind, which... being a chubby kid at the time... Uhh.. Didn't end very well lol.
