For a school project we had to choose an autobiography from the school library, and I was surprised to find Mat Hoffman’s from 2002 (it was right next to Hitler). Anyways, it was awesome reading about the history of BMX and how a lot of the common tricks today started out and how some great riders came to light. I also went on to ESPN on Demand a couple days later out of boredom, and they just happened to have an episode of Mat Hoffman’s Crazy Freakin’ Bikers on there. It kind of amazed me because I didn’t know they could do so many of the tricks we can do today, and it was cool seeing some great riders I know in their earlier stages of their riding career. And the best part is they did all of it on a 30-35 pound bike (fuck weight wienies).
CSB, I know have much more respect for the history of BMX and you older riders.
Also, based on the tricks they were able to do back then, it doesn’t seem like BMX has advanced much in the past decade, has it?

We had 20 pound bikes in the early 80's, not sure where you come up with 35 pounds. My bike is heavy as -uck and only goes 27.

Is that lever on your kids bike an original MX 2 finger lever or did they remake them?

For Valentine's day, my GF got me the Jackass tribute to Evil Knievel DVD, which is awesome. Mat Hoffman is all over it, and one of the special features is a crazy Mat Hoffman interview about the early days. It's pretty awesome.

That dude lost his spleen riding BMX. And still did it. That's a love of the sport if I've ever seen one.

I ride a Mirraco 20Forty and I dig it.

The craziest pic I've seen was on the cover of Go magazine and was shot from Mat's helmet, using fisheyes...
