very good photos just watch the lighting on some of them

canon dslr xti, currently $600 body and lens

kit 18-55mm lens

2 canon speedlights,

one is a 430 ex on a tripod, $300

other is the 580 ex2 on camera $450

or on an off camera shoe cord. $30



hoping to get some more stuff soon but the lack of a job isn't helping right now.

hey man.. they're really good pictures and you've got great angles.. but i'd be putting your flash in different places. like the first one. i'd have the flash on the same side of the camera coming at him from infront because with a black bike, rail, jacket, and background you lose him.
and the one with the american flag in the background. its got a deadly shadow going across it from the ramp blocking the light. so i would've had the flash in the same spot but just a little higher.

yeah the first one with the rail and blackness i was hoping for a fill flash to fill in around this side of him but it didn't work as i planned.


the american flag with the aweful shadow,
the flash was not on a stand it was on a cord in my other hand so i couldn't get it very much higher. but i will watch out for that in the future!

very nice i like how some of it is darker and some is real bright it gives some differences between them and you did a good job with angles and stuff

Hey, nice shots. I'd say watch your background. I see a lot of photos that miss the mark because the compostion is off. The rider gets jumbled up in the background. Try thinking out your shots before you take them. Keep practicing!

Okay You've got a nice start here.

As mentioned above, watch your flash placement. It seems like it's either too close to being on camera flash in some of the photos in others it's too far to the side. Try and find a nice compromise. Some where within like 45 degrees either camera right or camera left.

On your night and indoor shots, don't be afraid to open up your shutter speed a bit more. When you use your flash to light your whole exposure the backgrounds can go really dark and can look kind of bland and boring. Try shooting at night or inside with a shutter speed of around 1/15th of a second or slower.

Above you mention you have two speedlights. Get that second one on a stand or tripod off camera as well.

Also as mentioned above by Montymitch, your composition is pretty bland, try and change it up and get closer to the rider, or use a longer lens and get further away . Work on following the rule of thirds, that will help your composition a lot.
