The BMX Park showdown at the Dew Tour Finals was nothing short of insane. Daniel Dhers had a good chance of taking the title, but there were plenty of other guys gunning for the top spot.
Before the contest started, all of the riders lined up for an introduction but Scotty Cranmer was nowhere to be found. He had gotten hurt the day before and was planning to sit the finals out, but as he was watching the intros he changed his mind, rode back to his hotel to get his pads, and made it back in time to ride. He threw a triple-whip over the box like it was nothing, and he gave the front-flip-whip a few tries. He crashed on the first two, but he pulled the last one, got a little loose, and ran off the course and into a cameraman—so funny.
There were tons of other highlights from the comp, too. Dennis Enarson now had the 360-triple-tailwhip on lock. Dave Mirra dropped a huge flair-whip after his run after crashing one in his run. Steve McCann had a few 720-variations flying to end his triple-threat weekend.
The top three looked like this. Ryan Nyquist was on point despite feeling super-sick. 720-truck, huge flairs, and plenty more for third. Mike Spinner lived up to his last name with dialed 1080s, a 720-whip, 540-whip, and double-whip up the step-up for a close second. First place once again went to Daniel Dhers. 360-double-whip over the long and low box. Corked 720 over the box. Front flip over the spine. The list goes on and on. First place, which meant $25,000 for the win, and $75,000 for the year-end title, for the second year in a row.
The Dew Tour Trick of the Year also came to a close today, and fans voted Mike Spinner’s 1080 the winning move.
