Mat Hoffman, Simon Tabron , Eduardo Tereros, Tim Wood, and Jay Eggleson recently made a trip to the United Arab Emirates for a demo at the Dubai X Games. A trip like this should be a dream, but Simon and Mat both wound up getting broke off. Simon reported in his Vital BMX blog that a crash on a 900 resulted in a broken rib, and Mat wound up with some bad damage to his knee. Hit this to read Simon’s blog about the injury (and his “Foam Free? Not by Choice” story), and keep reading to hear what Mat had to say.
“Yeah, I took an unjustified slam. Can-can lookback, knee pad got caught up on my bike, so I threw my bike and landed on my feet from a good height and my rope snapped. I must be becoming fragile in my synthetically doctored state of riding. I had to walk through all the airports to get home and yesterday I had to get 100cc of blood drained out of my knee. Fun. I had to get my elbow drained, too. I didn't even realize I jacked my elbow, but I guess it bled slowly on the flight home until it locked up… Simon took a couple good 900 slams, but he's a young 32-year-old, so he jumped right up. Me… I'm having to accept my fragileness one slam at a time, but I'll be back, damn it!”
On the brighter side, Mat added, “I did get to jump out of a plane a few times in Dubai and I shot some good pictures you can use.” Good luck to on the recovery to both Mat and Simon. At this point, Hoffman knows more about knee surgery than most surgeons.
