Fuzzy Hall just called to let us know about Mike Aitken's bad crash at the infamous Posh Trails in Pennsylvania. Here's part of the post about the incident from 5050BMX.com: "Aitken over-rotated a 360 and hit his head pretty bad, and it is believed he had a seizure when he initially went down. He's currently in the hospital and is being watched closely by the doctors." Unfortunately Mike did not have medical insurance, but 5050 is setting up a fund to help out. Everyone knows how rad Mike Aitken is, and now it's your chance to do something for him. Hit up the 5050 website for more news and for the Mike Aitken fund. Vital BMX wishes Mike and his family all the best.
UPDATE courtesy of the Athlete Recovery Fund:
Mike Aitken is a Professional BMX rider in need of our help. Mike is an icon in the sport of BMX and is someone who rides with incredible style and passion for the sport. He is also a proud husband and a father. Read the message below from his brother Jeremy Aitken:
“Mike Aitken has been hospitalized in serious condition. While in Pennsylvania over the weekend, Mike was seriously injured when he over-rotated a 360. He is currently in the ICU unit and has not regained consciousness. His injuries include a fractured eye socket, sinus and both sides of his jaw. A CAT scan shows no swelling on his brain. As soon as any changes in his status are available, we will pass them on. Thank you for your faith, prayers, and support of Mike and his family. They are needed and greatly appreciated.”10/6/2008
This is a time when we can pull together to make a huge difference in Mike’s recovery. No amount is too small and if everyone pulls together and offers a little bit we can make a dent in the medical bills to come.

Athlete Recovery Fund is in the process of providing a grant to also assist Mike and his family through this tough time. While extremely unfortunate this is the reason why we started our charity. For the PayPal and mailing address we are simply helping coordinate donations with the approval of Mike Aitken’s family. For large donations or concerns about receiving tax deductibility please contact aaron@athleterecoveryfund.com.
UPDATE - 10/09/08
I just spoke with Fuzzy Hall and he said that although there has been very little change in Mikey's condition, things are starting to slightly look up. He's giving small responses to hearing his name and attempted to give his wife, Trista, a hug.
Today is actually Mike and Trista's fourth anniversary. Trista is in great spirits. She said that Mike was supposed to be out of town today, so she's happy they got to spend their anniversary together.
Mike's family is very thankful for the support the BMX community has been showing them during this rough time.
We'll have more updates as they become available. Donate if you can!

Don't mean to burst anyones bubble but if a pro rider gets injured pretty bad the news spreads quick and we help to the cause. But if an unkown rider gets injured bad, not too many people donate or really even know anything about it. It's a shame because when you compare a pro from an unknown rider, the pro has sponsors to help with the medical bills but the unknown doesn't... Think about all the riders out there that would kill to get that kind of donation money...

JonathanAllen is right 100%, but I'm still going to kick down some cash even though I can't really afford it. I'd rather my money go to support people in need rather than supporting a damn war for oil. Apparently I'm a communist.
Get well soon Mike.

I'm donating.
Seriously, if everyone just donates a bit, think of all the money that could go towards his medical bills.
Sucks that this happened to him.
