Mike Spinner on Hyper

After splitting ways with Mirraco, Mike Spinner has found a new sponsor: Hyper. Here's the official press release.

Professional BMX rider, Mike Spinner, recently signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Hyper Bicycles. Spinner and Hyper are already in talks of new products that will bear Spinner's name as well as his influence. Hyper will be among the many great brands that support Spinner in his efforts to compete in upcoming BMX Park competitions worldwide.

Spinner said, “I am really stoked to be a part of Hyper and they are giving me the opportunity to design my own bike which I am so excited about.”

”Mike is a great rider who is breaking new ground with his innovative tricks, in the same way we want to break new ground in ours," said Hyper Bicycles owner Clay Goldsmid. "He's going to be instrumental to our efforts to take the Hyper Brand into new directions, and allow us to expand into other branches of BMX."

Spinner is among the elite in BMX Park competing in the Dew Tour, the world's premier season-long action sports tour.

wow.....this is filled with crap. Hyper was one of the premier Bmx race frame builders in the 80's and 90's. They still make a few top of the line race frames as well as some components. I used to ride for Hyper back in the 90's for a little while, and I can say that Clay was and still is in charge of what goes on there. I know they kinda fell off recently, but thats mostly due to bad decisions on direction. Last I heard, they were sponsoring Donnie Robinson for the Olympics and ABA and NBL racing. And now they go and get Spinner. I think the whole Walmart thing was part of the restructuring plan, and it was only used as a way to make money for another serious run at being a premier bike company. Everyone says they are a Walmart bike, yet I haven't seen any here in Florida. Plenty of Mongoose's, but no Hyper's. Most of them were sold in Canada, which leads me to believe it was all about selling the name to get the on hand cash to make a serious run again. Hyper goes way back to the roots of BMX, and if you think Spinner is a sellout, then you have no clue what you are talkin about. Hyper is still somewhat grassroots, and I'm pretty sure they still have trails outside their warehouse in Jersey. I think this is a good move for Spinner since he gets to have alot more input on the direction of Hyper's product. And for the rest of the morons who can't read between the lines, Spinner was dropped from Mirraco. He didn't leave. Last time I talked to him he told me that he tried to keep it DL since Mirra is such a big player in the industry. He knew if he put Mirra on blast for dumpin him that it would only come back to bite him in the ass. So it's whatever.....I think it was a good move for Spinner and Hyper.

Hyper is a bike company that is sold at Canadian tire, sorta like Wal-Mart for the US, but a little more sports and tool oriented. Sorta like how Mongoose is sold in Zellers but makes expensive bikes, thats probably what will happen with Hyper is they start making "real" bikes.

All of you are childish...who gives a rat's arse what spinner does, its his life let him do with it what he wants. Stop hatin' cuz the mo fo is makin tons and tons of money to ride a bike( don't we all want the same?) Be happy for him and be glad he's makin' it, who cares if you think his style is whack? He must be doing something right to be in the spot he is in, if you don't like it, grow up and do something about it, go out ride your bike till you get to that point, till then you have no reason to be talkin. Also, be glad that another company is trying to get into the BMX scene, diversification brings flavor and makes things interesting, no one like the same ole' same ole all the time. I hope Mike gets to make his own frame the way he wants it.

And one more thing, it's not nice to go around accusing people of s**t, espcially if you don't know what your talkin about. Your not in his/her situation and therfor cannot speak on it, you can only give your OPINION. So stop talking unless you can 100% back your s**t, it only makes you look stupid if you can't otherwise.

Best of luck Mike, I hope you find what your looking for with the new sponser. Maybe one day all of us will be able throw 10's and quad whips...

Give the guy a break, sheesh, you all hold him, and so many other's on such a high pedastal, he's got to make ends meet too.

no there not. they were huge in bmx many years ago. that's a totally different company now then wen they were making good stuff at one time. this is the same name company but different people running it and selling to walmart now instead of pro shops. when;s the last time you saw anybody on a hyper bmx frame that's been made in the last 5 years? nobody. because they don't make that stff nemore.
