Mirra Speaks on Spinner Off Mirraco
Dave Mirra sent over the following statement on the recent split between Mike Spinner and Mirraco:
"Mike was a great addition to the team when we picked him up in 2006. When we decided not to continue our deal at the end of 2008 it was tough call. Mike’s skills on a bike speak for themselves, his exposure on TV and through his other sponsors was awesome, and his professionalism in representing the Mirraco brand wherever he traveled was excellent. For those reasons, it must seem pretty strange to people that we parted ways.
I guess it just came down to the direction we want to go as a company. It just seemed like the right time to shake things up and add some new talent to the team. It also fits in with some big changes we’ll be making to the new bikes to keep things fresh at Mirraco.

i have never really liked dave mirra, or bestwick because i think they are both cocky, but i like spinner and the mirraco company, i think its sick!

this is why the internet is bullshit for bmx. stop talking shit and go 1080 a box jump. oh and throw in a quad whip. soo maybe mike spinner doesnt flow like chase hawk but bmx is about individuality.

A lot of riders around Dallas ride MirraCo bikes just cuz Spinner shreds so much gnar on them.

sure he can bust out 1080's and quad whips, but i still cant watch him ride, just look at his part in the nike video "writing on the wall", it fuckin sucked ass. and for those saying he has style, they only style he relates to in my opinion is the style of a robot.

this was a little weird. I've ridden with Spinner a few times, and hung out with him a bit. He's not a bad dude, but he comes off as a little arrogant and abrasive. The dude can ride........everything. I think his problem is that he has developed a persona as a hucker. He doesn't really fit into any bmx category. He doesn't fit the mold of rider that typifies the general buying public, and that translated into lackluster support. He definitely has flow and style, but he is only known for 3 whips and 1080's and other Dew Tour circus moves. I think if he broadened his horizons by riding in some more video parts and doing some street, he would gain a wider audience. Mike definitley had plenty of camera time, and a ton of little kids look up to him. I know for a fact that he helped move units, so I think this move is motivated by more than just sales. At the end of the day, both Mirra and Spinner have more money in their pockets than me, so I'm not gonna worry about it.
