It wasn't very long ago when you could only get BMX parts in black and chrome, but that's not the story today. Many companies are beginning to release new parts in a variety of colors. One company in particular is Demolition. Demolition is turning a lot of heads with their recent release of a yellow line of products. Vital BMX spoke with the guy in charge over at Volume and Demolition, Brian Castillo, to get some insight on this.

Two years ago it seemed like the only color of BMX parts was black. Do you think rider’s tastes have changed?

Oh yeah. The new black is a rainbow of colors. It’s awesome seeing kids at the park look different than all of their homies. I don’t really know why it’s changed, but it’s definitely a good thing; it’s just bad to stock them all if you’re a shop or company.

How do you decide what colors to run stuff in? Are colors only released in limited runs?

We just go off what goes good with frames and what we like. All of the colors are limited because it seems that kids literally want to have a variety now. We can’t have every color in stock all at once.

What colors seem to do well right now?

Black and white. Those will always be good considering yellow can only go with so many frame colors. We have been getting a lot of inquires about our purple batch of parts.

What can riders expect from Demolition and Volume for 2008; not just new colors, but in general.

Wow, we’ve been working on a bunch of new products. Volume will have a new Jason Enns signature frame, new Volume saddle, Volume bar ends, and our new Genesis forks. Demolition will have all new hubs (front and back w/ 8T drive), PA (Chris Doyle) bars, new tire sizes, new M5 sprocket, and a new hub guard.

Glenn Milligan and you spent a lot of time putting together On The Clock; is there another full-length video in your future? Is it worth the expense it takes?

Oh, no. It seems like that is going to be a dead art form in the BMX market. On The Clock didn’t take off the way we expected it would have. You just have to adapt to what’s hot, and if that’s Web videos, then that’s what the masses will get from us. Web videos have their good and bad parts. The good being it costs very little and the bad being that there is no hard copy to hug and cradle day after day on your new HD Television. Personally, I would much rather have a hard copy, but I’m obviously old and outdated.
