Park to be Included in 2012 Olympics in London?
BikeBiz.com is reporting that BMX Park is going to be included in the 2012 Olympics in London. Many people thought vert would be the first freestyle BMX discipline to get in the Games, but there is no mention of vert in the BikeBiz story. Click here for more info.

It would be Great to have bmx park in the Olympics... but it would be a huge mistake not to include vert, if thats what they are planning!!! Theres gonna be a shit load of new riders raging in 3 years time, with skateparks with foam & resi's... it makes it a lot easier & quicker for young riders to get good!! And this could be HUGE for the sport, I know there's a lot a fashion riders who will be dead against this cos of the whole 'hate the big corps shite'.... ( big corps have been around bmx since the early 80's.. its nothing new!! ) But guarenteed.. there will be a lot of new blood to bmx due to the Olympics... which means buying frames, bikes, clothes, wheels etc from rider owned companies!! But I totally agree with 'ChanelBMX'... HOW WILL IT BE JUDGED? HOW WILL RIDERS QUALIFY?? A New series of contests like the UKBFA days maybe??? Age groups possibly???? Who knows????
We have 3 years to find out!!!

If this is true I pray to god that this is true just think about it the level of riding that is going to go down it is going to be on a god like level just think about the tricks that riders will throw out just think about the park that is gonna be built ( it would be even better if they left the park after the olympics for people to ride ) we are gonna see riders like mirra, dhers, spinner, cranme nyquest, webb, main, guettler, reynolds go bonkers to try to win the gold medal

i think this is an awesome way to get bmx into the main stream, many people would be like man i dont want riding to become a trend, but i see it being good that if more people start putting more money into the bmx companies we can start getting more high quality parts too,and there might even be a NEED bike parks to be built,i see the olympics as a good opportunity.

Is there really a benefit for us? Or is this just a way for the Olympics to gain ratings and $$$ at our behalf? Do we need more rules and regulations on something that's suppose to be about us and our passions? I'm not totally writing it off, but I think questions should be asked by the entire bmx community as to why we would want to be there. We already have our own organizations run by riders. Do we really need more corporate big wigs telling us what we need to do, so that we can save their Olympic ratings?
