Ryan Nyquist is headed for surgery at the end of the month to repair the knee injury that happened at the Summer X Games. We asked Ryan if he could give us an update, and kicked ass as usual.

boost in San Jose “I tore my ACl in my left knee at the X Games this summer while practicing for the Park competition. I basically put my leg out on a 270 and snap went the ligament. I think it might have been partially torn from a contest I did the previous week in England, but I tore it completely at X Games. So I wasn't sure what I was going to do after that. I knew I was gonna need surgery after getting an MRI, so I figured that my season was over. I spent a couple weeks with my girlfriend on vacation and the whole time my knee was feeling pretty stable and halfway normal as we were walking around all day long like tourists. So it put the idea in my head that maybe I could try to ride with the ACL torn. After all, Rob Darden has been doing it for years now, and Scott Wirch is in the same boat and still riding. So I entertained the idea and it wasn't until I was flying out to Portland for the Dew Tour (where I was just planning on hanging out and not riding) That I decided that I should at least try to ride. This way if I absolutely couldn't do it, then there would be no ‘what ifs.’ After all, I was sitting pretty nicely in the overall point standings, and it was gonna kill me to see that slip out of my hands without a fight. So on one of my layovers in Las Vegas, I got off the plane, got a rental car, and drove to San Diego to pick up my bike, my gear, and also a knee brace from one of my friends. And then I caught another flight up to Portland to try and see if I could even ride my bike at all.

360 dip “Well, long story short, I finished out the year. Had a great time and didn't do too bad in the overall standings, and now it's time to get my knee fixed. I'm planning on going out to California on the 29th to have a patellar tendon cadaver put in by Dr. Chao, and after that spend the next few months concentrating on rehab and getting my health and strength back to normal. So that about it from here. Hopefully I'll be back stronger than ever next year!”
