Van Homan Interview About Fremont and Little Devil
When word got out that Van Homan was riding for Fremont and officially finished with Little Devil, the news raised a lot of questions. And Van was happy to give you the answers right here on Vital BMX.
How did you wind up on Fremont?
Chase Dehart was over in Columbia with Rich (Hirsch) and I don't really know how they got talking about it, but I guess my name came up. Chase came back and mentioned that he thought Rich would be real excited to have me be part of the team. I was into the idea. Derek (Adams) is moving on from the whole Little Devil thing so it just made sense for me to move on as well. I'm really excited about it. I'm glad to be a part of a company that is rooted in BMX. At the end of the day I know Rich is down for BMX and that’s all that really matters. That’s why I’m excited to be part of this thing.
How long were you on Little Devil and how weird is it to be somewhere else now?
I've been part of Little Devil since ‘96 or ‘97 so over ten years. It is strange in a way because Derek and Little Devil have been a part of my life for so long. He helped me grow as a rider and I helped Little Devil grow as a company. We worked hard together and worked well together. I guess like they say, all good things must come to an end. I don't think LD has really been the same for a while now. I think Derek and I both realize that so it’s time to move on. I'll still be working with Derek to help Orchid grow so we have other projects. The focus has just shifted. The bottom line is, it was a great time, I loved and appreciated all the good times I had from being part of the Devil but I'm also really excited to move on.
What kind of plans do you have with Fremont? Are you going to be involved in design stuff at all?
I'm not really sure. No crazy plans right now. Maybe tie some Fremont stuff in with Two by Four. We just have vague ideas right now so we will see what happens. If any of the team guys have ideas I know Rich is down to listen so time will tell.
You used to ride for Tip Plus and things didn't really work out. Fremont is distributed through Tip. Does that concern you?
It did at first. I've been a part of and have seen some things I don't agree with at Tip/Primo… Rich assured me that all team decisions and creative control is up to him and the team, so I'm not too worried about it at this point.
There has been some confusion as far as Fremont and Lotek being the same thing and what this meant for your shoe sponsorship situation.
I'm still going to be riding for Orchid Footwear. Fremont is a clothing brand. I believe Fremont has plans to maybe do some shoes, but that doesn't really affect me. Even if Rich does some Fremont shoes, he’s not going to force me to choose. He’s just doing some crossover stuff with some of the guys that are involved with both of the brands.

I definitely still rock Primo parts for the majority of my bike. I'm not quick to boycot over someone elses hatred. Hell, I can't afford to and I refuse to play the Trade Your Parts game that is so popular these days.
Just as a whole, BMX is so divided. It is such a strange vibe now when you ride most anywhere. When a new face shows up and everyone just looks at them instead of saying Hello and being siked that someone else shares the same interest as you.

you must be talking about the PAST. I know Nate Moroshan pretty good, and i would have to say that things have changed A LOT, since he took over as team manager. I have and will still represent Primo and Tip to the best of my ability. I love you guyyyyysss.

Does Skateboarding have this much industry drama? Like all the Tip Plus hate and what not?
Obviously Van isn't really involved in it, but it seems Tip has messed up a lot of relationships throughout the BMX world.
Divided we fall.
