Nike BMX Art Show in Beijing May 13th

With the historic introduction of BMX as an Olympic sport, Nike celebrates and salutes four decades of BMX heritage and its intrinsic creative current. Nike has teamed up with BMX Hall of Famer, Bob Haro, recreating his iconic number plate as a canvas. A select group of contemporary artists, each sharing a cultural connection to BMX, have been invited to take part in the Lightning Bolts Art Show. Unique works from artists such as Nick Philip, Andy Jenkins, Rich Hansen, and Michael Lau will debut in Beijing, China on May 13th. The artwork will later be auctioned off to help action sports foundation The Land of Plenty as they introduce at-risk youth to the world of BMX.

Lightning Bolts pays homage to the creative spark in BMX, past and present. The event unites an international mix of originality, all touched (or warped) by BMX. It connects the pioneers, including legends such as Bob Haro, “The Father of Freestyle,” with the new-school Nike 6.0 BMX athletes like Mike Spinner, who stuck the first 1080 in BMX competition in 2008. 6.0 Athletes Nigel Sylvester and Maxime Charveron will also be present showcasing the next generation of athletes who will continue the progression of BMX. Other legends include Bryan Blyther, Ron Wilkerson, and Matt Hoffman as well as the creative minds behind Freestylin, Mark Lewman and Jeff Tremaine.
Matt Wilhelm on Hoffman Bikes

We just got word that Matt Wilhelm is now an official member of the Hoffman Bikes team. Matt wrote a couple of sentences to give you all the details.

"When I heard that Kevin Jones was going to design another frame for Hoffman Bikes it definitely caught my attention. Starting in May of 2008 I will not only be riding a Hoffman Bike, but will also be riding for Hoffman Bikes. With the support from Hoffman Bikes I will be able to travel to more jams and competitions, keep the lights and heat going in my winter riding spot, and help spread the growth of flatland and BMX.

"Thanks of course to Suelo for their dedicated support over the past five years. I will still be riding some Suelo parts on my Hoffman Strowler frame and would like to thank them for their support. Of course I will continue to ride for Dan's Competition, as they have sponsored me since before I was even a pro. Thanks again to my sponsors for their support, and I hope that you will get to see my new bike in action in a contest, demo, jam, or video sometime soon."

Red Bull Elevation Track Details

The fourth edition of Red Bull Elevation is about to begin, and the world’s best scenario is almost ready to receive the best riders worldwide.

The main element that will make more daring this track would be the continuous ramps section in the centre of it, where each rider will have to decide the direction they will take; if they loose their routine rhythm they will not be able to continue to the next ramp. ‘Only the best and the ones that dominate every type of ramps will win this event’, commented Jay Miron, event producer and track designer.

The riders will compete for a total prize of $35,000 dollars. Five international judges will be in charge of the evaluation of every participant’s style, technique and fluidity.
