Minneapolis, Minnesota (Target Center) and Chicago, Illinois (Sears Centre Arena) were the host cities for the second and third stops of the tour, and saw skateboarding stars Pierre-Luc Gagnon (Montreal, Canada) and Danny Mayer (Omaha, Nebraska), battle among an elite field of skateboarding’s best.  In addition, action sports’ newest sensation, Big-Air BMX Triples lit up the crowd with superstars, Ryan Guettler (Queensland, Australia), Rob Darden (Greenville, North Carolina), Daniel Dhers (Caracas, VZ), Cory Nastazio (Tehachapi, CA), T.J. Ellis (Moreno Valley, California) and more.  Action sports fans witnessed intense competition as the athletes dug deep into their bag of tricks and put on jaw-dropping shows.

The tour’s fourth stop was at Kings Island theme park in Cincinnati, Ohio where the skateboard vert athletes were joined by a host of BMX vert legends including, Chad Kagy (Gilroy, California), Simon Tabron (Newquay, England) and Steve McCann (Melbourne, AUS).  A mock Eiffel Tower was the backdrop for this competition, as the athletes put on a show as thrilling as the world-renowned roller coasters found at Kings Island.

5/14/2009 9:35 AM

Hello Friends -

101X - KROX FM, Austin Texas, is teaming up with adbirds.com, to host an online charity garage sale to raise funds for an organization called Active Force Foundation, specifically benefiting the Stephen Murray Family Fund & Stay Strong Apparel.

There are two ways to help:

1- Beginning Monday, May 18th, list any items you have for sale (businesses can have complete listings for free, too).

Upon check-out, it will ask you if you'd like to reference a charity, when doing so, select 101X/Stephen Murray. Now, happy selling! You list it, you sell it, and adbirds.com donates $1 in your name to the foundation, up to $4000! I have that many items I could get rid of in my own garage!

2- Donate items to be sold in the 101X on-line garage sale. On Thursday, June 5th, we're hosting an on-line garage sale and 100% of the proceeds will go to the foundation benefiting Stephen Murray. What can you donate? Event tickets, sporting goods, dinner certificates, services, t-shirts, movie memorabilia, cars, boats, liquor packages, anything!

Stephen Murray is a 3-time U.S. Gold medal champion BMX rider who was injured at an event in 2007. At the age of 27, Stephen Murray is a quadriplegic, a single father of two beautiful sons, an athlete, and an inspiration to many. You may have heard of his story on Bryant Gumbel's HBO Special or through numerous other television appearances. Stephen Murray hopes to be able to walk, ride and compete one day, but his goal to hold his children again is his most important dream.

BIG IN BAVARIA
 –
A massive dirt line and a high level BMX contest
during the BIKE EXPO on July 25th in Munich

Munich, March 26th 2009 – Germany will host a high-class BMX dirt jump contest called the “BIG IN BAVARIA”.
The comp unites the world’s best BMX dirt jumpers during the BIKE EXPO, the brand new international bicycle trade show from July 23rd to 26th. As you can guess, hearing the title “BIG IN BAVARIA”, it’s not only about huge doubles and 20.000 Euros prize money, but also about the 25 invited big names like Cory Nastazio, James Foster, Luke Parslow, Ryan Guettler, Ryan Nyquist, Dave Dillewaard, Corey Bohan, Alejandro Caro or Cameron White.

Tarek Rasouli, managing partner of rasoulution, the agency which is in charge of the BIG IN BAVARIA, explains its concept: “Munich is well known worldwide for the Oktoberfest and the Hofbräuhaus. Some of the BMX pros have already been in Munich, riding the various spots and enjoying the Bavarian lifestyle. The BIKE EXPO is the new melting pot for the global bicycle industry and the perfect chance to get the world’s best pros all together. A perfect dirt line, 20.000 Euros overall prize money, a unique Bavarian flair, as well as thousands of spectators make the perfect framework for the athletes from all over the globe.“

To present a world class dirt line, the well experienced track builder and long term BMX pro Markus Hampl takes care of the course design: “The BIG IN BAVARIA gonna kick ass! I have 180 meters to build whatever I want to. So I made my decision for a big starting tower with a smooth step down. Six huge dirt doubles will follow, a part of this section will also feature two parallel lines – perfect for transfers. A step up - step down combo somewhere in between also offers some more diversity. I can promise you one thing for sure: there will be massive jumps giving you a lot of air time.”

The BIKE EXPO is open for consumers on Saturday and Sunday, July 25th and 26th, and offers a well-packed side program. The BIG IN BAVARIA dirt line is the center of the “Park and Ride Zone”, which features a bike test track for everybody, a mini ramp show, booths of the freshest dirt brands, food and beverage, as well as a big music stage. After the BIG IN BAVARIA BMX finals on Saturday evening, the visitors and riders will go off when they get to see the international music act. On Sunday, the world’s best mountain bike riders will battle for another 20.000 Euros prize money on the same dirt line.

Make your way to the BIKE EXPO and see the bicycle industry’s latest news, get an autograph from the world’s best dirt riders and check their stunning tricks on the BIG IN BAVARIA jumps.

Take your chance to visit Munich.
Please find detailed information about the tradeshow program soon on www.bike-expo.com.

This year, competitors can look forward to an increase in prize money for the event, and Skateboard, BMX, and In-Line participants for the street discipline can also expect a new course design that will resemble real street conditions.

The KIA X Games Asia has earned a strong global reputation with a significant increase in awareness about action sports in the region. Last year's event was enthusiastically received by the Shanghai community and broke attendance records with more than 52,800 people passing through the gates of Yangpu district's KIC Jiangwan Sports Center - an increase of more than 55% from 2007.

The Games are bolstered by the addition of a new Silver Sponsor in Mountain Dew and the elevation of Apparel sponsor Pony to the Silver category. New brands like Doritos and Cold Stone have also picked up sponsorship packages. And ESPN has entered in to a collaboration with licensing agent IMG for the launch of an X Games consumer products line planned for later this year in China.

Leading up to this year's event, KIA X Games Asia 2009 kicked off with a three-city, eight-stop roadshow tour in December and will finish at Shanghai's Wanda Shopping Mall April 25-26. The roadshows include demos in BMX freestyle and In-Line skate, musical performances, entertainment acts, prize giveaways and an interactive mini-skate park for spectators to test their skills.

Event Partners

The event is proudly sanctioned by the Chinese Extreme Sports Association and is organized by ESPN STAR Sports, the Shanghai Media Group and the Shanghai Sports Federation. The Shanghai Yang Pu District Government is the event's Special Organizer and the Shanghai Sports Competition Management Centre is the co-organizer while the Shanghai Extreme Sports Association is the supporting organizer. The KIC Jiangwan Sports Center is the official venue.

Curbrider (www.curbrider.com) is a Tucson, Arizona based BMX company with an innovative new product, The Flow Pedals.

Curbrider would like your feedback!

If you fit one of the following categories, contact us right away to get some flow:

* Park Rider - Park riding is a game of inches. Flow pedals stabilize the bottom bracket. Pop-off with more accuracy and confidence.

* Street Rider - With a little practice, increase the height of your j-hops. Flow pedals grind.

* Vert Rider - Just like park, the best vert riders rarely pedal. Vert is also a game of accuracy and inches. With a little practice you'll feel more confident and go higher with Flow Pedals.

* Racer - You've heard the story of Bubba winning a race chainless, right? The secret is flow. Throw a pair of Flow Pedals on your bike to train for flow.

For beginners, Flow Pedals are a safe alternative to the unstable bottom bracket. For experts, take your riding and confidence to the next level.

More stability means better riding...period.

Curbrider has a limited supply available to flow. Normally $50, the first 50 respondents to this message get a pair of Curbrider Flow Pedals (Prototype version 12) for free.

2009 Jomopro Ads Flatland To The Lineup - Come Be A Part Of History

This April 3rd and 4th flatland will be added to the annual Jomopro contest held at Autumn Ramp Park in Joplin, Missouri. Jomopro has grown over the past four years from a small-town jam to an internationally recognized event with X Games and Dew Tour athletes competing for $20,000 in prize money. Jomopro hopes that their flatland event will continue to grow year after year just as the skatepark contest has. The vision is to make the Jomopro flatland contest one of the biggest in North America within the next few years.
This year the contest already expects top professional flatland riders from the U.S., Canada, France, and more, and promises to pay out a minimum of $3,000* in prize money to the top 10 pros. X Games and Dew Tour announcer Catfish will be on hand to keep the riders and the crowd excited during the event as a panel of five judges keep tabs on the runs.

The contest will be held in The Foundry, a concert hall connected to Autumn Ramp Park, with two amateur classes competing on Friday and the pro class competing on Saturday, followed by a party in The Foundry.

We are encouraging flatland riders of all ages and skill level from all around the world to register for flatland's debut at Jomopro and be a part of history. Registration is now open online at http://www.jomopro.net/registration.html.

Sign up early to make sure you don’t miss out on your opportunity to compete in one of the best flatland events the Midwest has ever seen.

Saturday, April 4:
10am-1pm - Open practice for pros
1pm-3pm - Pro qualifying
7pm-8:30pm - Pro finals

Format:
Intermediate:
Each rider gets one 60 second run. The average of three judges' scores is the rider's score for their run. There is no qualifying/finals for Intermediate.
Expert:
Qualifying -
Each rider gets one 60 second run. The average of the three judges' scores is the rider's score for their run. If more than 25 riders enter Expert, 8 will compete in finals. If less than 25 riders enter Expert, 6 will compete in finals. If less than 15 riders enter Expert, there will be no finals. The average of three judges scores will determine who qualifies.
Finals - Each rider gets one 90 second run with an option for a last trick or combo. The average of three judges' scores is the rider's final score.
Pro:
Qualifying -
Each rider gets one two-minute run and the option for a last trick or combo. The average of five judges' scores will determine who qualifies. The top 12 riders move to finals.
Finals - The pro finals will run a single-elimination bracket-style format. During each battle, the riders will take turns—each with a total of two one-minute runs and one last trick or combo. Immediately after the last tricks, the two riders will stand in the middle of the floor with the announcer. The five judges will each hold up a flag indicating which rider they think won the battle. The rider with the most votes from the judges will move on to the next round and the losing rider is eliminated from the contest.

Judging:
Judges will not be announced prior to the event. There will be three judges for the amateur classes and five for the pro class. Each judge has been selected by the event organizers based on their qualifications. During qualifying, judges' scores will serve as a reference, not a definite number. The judges may talk amongst themselves and review each other's scores after all qualifying runs are finished to make any adjustments they feel are necessary and select who will be in the finals.

Travel Information:
Hotel:
Holiday Inn Joplin has created a special rate for anyone attending Jomopro. The rate is $59.00 a night and they will donate $5 of that back to The Bridge. You can reserve rooms by calling Holiday Inn at (417) 782-1000 and asking for the Jomopro/Bridge rate.
There are also several other hotels in the area within a short driving distance and a few within riding and walking distance. You can use Google.com or YellowPages.com to search for hotels in Joplin, Missouri.
Airfare:
Joplin has a small airport, but most find it easier to fly into Springfield, Missouri or Tulsa, Oklahoma and rent a car. It is a little more than an hour from both of those airports to the venue and an easy drive to Joplin using the Interstates. You can use Kayak.com to help search for a flight and rental car.
Local:
While Joplin doesn't offer a lot as far as nightlife or tourism, there are plenty of affordable restaurants, fast food chains, and grocery stores nearby the contest venue to make eating on the go a breeze.

Australia BMX Games January 24-26

1/5/2009 5:54 AM

Australia’s biggest freestyle BMX competition will enter it’s sixth year in 2009 and is putting on the largest scale BMX Games in the events history. Taking place over the Australia Day long Weekend, the 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink BMX Games presented by Strictly BMX, has more than three hundred Australian and International competitors wheeling their way down to Melbourne’s Docklands and battling it out over Park, Flatland and Dirt BMX disciplines.

Competition fires up on Saturday January 24th with the Haro Bikes Park Competition at Central Pier, Docklands. Competitors will be split into Junior, Pro, Expert and Girls divisions with qualifiers on the Saturday and finals on the Sunday. All the action is taking place on Australia’s largest mobile street course which will be set up over water and feature the best street BMX competitors in Australia.

Waterfront City will then play host to the BMX Discipline with the most artistic flair on Sunday January 25th at the Foot Locker Flatland Competition. Taking place from 6PM on Sunday night in what is commonly described as the ballet of Freestyle BMX, Flatland riders will compete over style, balance, flow and co-ordination. Audiences can expect to see all sorts of theatrics as Australia’s best flatland riders spin, bounce and roll under bright lights and laid back hip hop beats in the Foot Locker arena.

The Final day of competition on Monday January 26th wraps up with the hugely popular Backbone BMX Dirt competition. This is definitely an event characterised by the daredevil antics of Freestyle BMX’ wildest personalities. Four hundred tonnes of dirt will be shipped into the New Quay development site on Docklands Drive and riders are expected to reach massive elevation jumps of twenty to thirty feet, whilst attempting mid-air tail whips, bar spins and front flips. Several Australians are amongst the highest ranked BMX Dirt riders in the world so the Backbone BMX Dirt event will definitely be a World Class competition.

Previous BMX Games have drawn thousands of spectators and with this dynamic new location at Melbourne’s Docklands and the Australia Day long weekend timing, there is expected to be over 12,000 spectators coming to check out the games.

Major international riders are also competing across the three disciplines of Park/Street, Flatland and Dirt, and the official list of competitors will be released in the coming weeks.
