You’re probably looking at this Ogio golf bag wondering why it’s on a BMX website. Believe me, there is a good reason. Whether you’re a pro traveling to contests or simply a rider looking to take a trip with your bike, this thing can make a world of difference. Here’s why—if the airlines know you’re bringing a bike on the airplane, they are more than likely going to hit you up with a $100 charge for your bike—each way! I don’t even want to get into the stupidity of this charge… Riders have been dealing with this for years by taking their bikes apart and putting them into the smallest box possible, or using many other creative means to avoid the charge. I’m not advocating lying to the airlines, but there have been plenty of times I’ve brought a box full of “camping gear” to the airport.
So here’s how the Ogio Monster Travel Bag found its way into BMX. Rob Darden was in Utah and looking for a bag to stash his bike in. Andy Bell from Ogio told him he should try Monster Travel Bag; it was the biggest bag Ogio made so it was worth a try. When Darden started taking his bike apart, he realized that the bag was shaped perfectly so the back wheel could stay in the frame.
The real beauty of the Monster Bag is at the airport. When the check-in person sees you walking their way, they see a person pulling a professional looking golf bag and they never even think about a bike. Technically the bag may be over the size limits by a hair, but if you’re polite and look like a well-behaved golfer, you’re most likely set.
There are all kinds of technical specs that make this bag rad, but here are the important details for BMX. You can fit a bike inside with minimal effort, it’s got plenty of room/compartments for your tools, helmet, pads, and clothes, and its Structural Load Equalizing Deck (SLED) system and wheels makes it a breeze to pull around the airport—trust me, that matters a lot.
How much will this bag set you back? Under two hundred bucks, so if it helps you avoid the airline charge on one roundtrip flight it’s paid for itself. If someone in your family is a golfer, you can con them into paying for half so they can use it for their next golf adventure. Even better, convince your mom to buy one for your dad and then borrow it on your next trip. I'm sure your dad won't mind... And you can get one of these beauties at Fuzzy Hall's shop, 50/50, at (801)-546-2691.
