There's no reason to disassemble it, unless you want to do some maintenance or something, but I'd do that, then reassemble and use it indoors to practice stationary stuff. Do a youtube search for stuff you can work on indoors.

What are you using it for? I ask because it isn't a full-chromoly frame. Just the down tube and dropouts (as far as the frame is concerned) and chromoly steerer tube (not fork legs).

Actually, I believe Shimano had a BMX Cassette hub in the early(er?) 80's. It was in the DX line at about the same time that the DX pedals first hit the market.

Really, you should be able to lean back and with just a slight bull back, pull the wheel off the ground and (try to) maintain from there. There's no upward pulling of the bars. Think of it as you are holding onto the bars so you don't fall off the back ... more »

It doesn't sound like you are over-tightening it, but thread engagement was/is an issue. You should put a bit of grease on the threads of the compression threads as well, this will help keep the aluminum from galling in the steel steerer tube and help ... more »
