Added reply in a thread Which U brake set to get? 1/27/2015 6:37 PM

I'm glad you think so, I just rang through an order for the Fly Manuals as well as an Odyssey SLS slick cable. I will also trial a few different brake pads as the one on my sons bike with pained rims are pathetic.

I take it the new Fly brake is the one they call the "manual"? I will also look into the demolitions and Tektro FX950. Since I am no longer a struggling teenager, I can afford what I want, but don't want to waste money just on a name.

I am switching my parts over to a new frame (Redline Device G7) and found the new frame takes U brakes, so I need a new set. I was thinking about the Fly brakes manual set or Eclat, any other recommendations and why?

Added reply in a thread What are the grippiest brake pads? 1/22/2015 10:23 AM

The bike is only 1 month old, but even brand new the brakes were bad. Pads are only cheap so I have bought a pair of Eclats and will buy a pair or Koolstops and compare the two.

I have just ordered some Éclat clear pads. I will also look for some Kool stops and try them on the other end.

Thanks for the tip on the cables. Who makes the clear pads? I don't care about noise. Some noise is good so pedestrians here him coming on the bike paths.

Those of you running 30 tooth front sprockets, do you find they are small enough to clear the coping on ramps? I was hoping to go slightly bigger than the standard 9/25, but not sure if a bigger 28-30 tooth sprocket will clear.

What sort of ratios are people running for park and flat land?

The G7 has only been out a few years and they do still produce it. I just bought one.

Great post Dave L I knew the wage in U.S was low, but didn't realise it was that low. I have to say respect to those who can live on that wage these days and I hope conditions improve for you soon, it doesn't seem realistic to expect people to live on ... more »

+1 on this. When I first set out on my own, I was sharing a dungeon apartment with a bunch of other young blokes all saving money to get to the next motocross race. Furniture was pizza boxes and beer cartons, but for us it was heaven. Sponsorship paid ... more »

Maybe where you are. I know when I was doing my apprenticeship, If I was slacking off, talking and complaining as much as some of our apprentices, we would have been terminated. Now they just council them again and again and a fuckin gain..

As a 45 year old who has a lot of younger workers under me, yes, many don't have the work ethic which people had years ago. In my job, we have 21 year olds on $130000+ a year in the mines who piss and moan about others who have been in the game for 20 ... more »

I ended up getting this. http://redlinebicycles.com/parts/device-frame/ I know it is not a popular brand these days but I lusted over these when I was younger and now I am getting back into it, I finally get what I always used to want as a kid.

This is the sort of post I was hoping for, thanks for a lot of good info. I already ordered a frame (not one you listed) and it seems to have about the right specs, so hopefully it will work OK.
