I would effing love to go riding today, but it's been raining for the past 4 days with no signs of letting up. I'm sitting here staring at my just-about-2-weeks-old bike that I can't ride because of the rain. Grr. Argh.

Thanks! The way I figure it, most of the FGFS guys are riding 26s as are the street MTB guys. If they can do it on 26s, I should be able to do it on a 26" BMX bike.

About 6 months ago, I picked up a Mike Buff edition Big Ripper. Last weekend I replaced it with a Redline PL26. I've been riding every day (except yesterday, because of rain). The PL26 is so much easier to ride; the last couple of days I've been working ... more »

Reply to How has el toro not been capped yet 1/31/2019 8:17 PM

Huh. So it turns out, I didn't even know El Toro was a hot spot. I used to work in Irvine, right on the border of Lake Forest. There's no way I'm ever going to grind, jump, or do anything other than slowly walk up or down those stairs, but I might have ... more »

Sorry if I mislead; I didn't actually see them for sale, I just had them in my head as a "thing".

New thread Lay-back pivotal seat post 1/28/2019 1:24 PM

I'm looking for a lay-back pivotal seat post that has more height to it than that dinky little Subrosa one. Or even a lay-back seatpost for railed seats with the integrated clamp. Any ideas if something like that exists? All I can find is the Subrosa ... more »

Reply to Brakes Or Brakeless 1/28/2019 12:27 PM

Huh. Six years later, there are still "brakes vs. brakeless" threads. Ride how you want as long as it doesn't impact anyone else. But much like the guy who t-boned me because he had no brakes and couldn't stop in time, you're Doing It Wrong if your choice ... more »

Reply to Introduce Yourself 1/28/2019 10:42 AM

Well, I've been gone long enough that a re-introduction is probably in order. My name's Tim, I'm from Southern California, and I'm an old guy who rides big bikes. I raced BMX back in the 80s and got back into bicycles of all types in the early 2000s.

New thread Old Riders on Big Bikes 1/28/2019 9:42 AM

So, I'm looking for riders of the older set (I'm in my 40s) riding bigger bikes (22/24/26/29) in the Northern Orange County area. I'm in La Habra, which is as far north in OC as you can get (I live about 100 yards from the OC/LAC border). Really, big

Glad you're OK. Yes, seriously, consider a helmet. I was not wearing one doing a trick I'd done hundreds of times before - but I was on a bigger bike than I was used to - and the bike got away from me. I fell on my back and cracked my head hard on the ... more »

I haven't watched the video yet, but I just wanted to add that I raced back in the 80s. My home track was the NBL USBMX track in Azusa, CA. I have... SUCH fond memories of that place. I wish that video was as prevalent then as it is now, because I'd ... more »

A little late to the party, but I'm going to go the other way and say that if you're just looking to ride and make some spins on a pump track, a quality aluminum frame will be more than fine for you.

That's one hell of a bike. Well done. I do prefer it with the spoked wheels over the Skyways, though.

I lusted after a 22 for the longest time. Rad that they're still out there. Did you look into the aftermarket availability of tires and tubes these days? Or wheels?

It's been a long time since I was around these parts. Got out of BMX for a while, then got back into it. Picked up a Big Ripper, but it turned out to be WAY too big. Bought this beauty just the other day:

Absolutely love this thing. (Yes, there's ... more »
