Added reply in a thread Khe Coaster question 6/8/2018 12:49 AM

When a coaster is not engaged, the wheel rolls on the bearing between the driver and the shell on the drive side. When it is engaged, it rolls on the driver bearing. I'd pull the axle out and check for play between the driver and the axle

Added reply in a thread Why the fuck is setting chain tension and getting the God damned wheel straight with good tension such a pain in my ass? 6/8/2018 12:39 AM

I lol'd Chain tensioners were pretty good*, unless you used pegs. Even the beefy ones like that (Primo Venus?) would break where the threaded rod met the washer from icepicks and double pegs Edit: * For best results, you'd want a tensioner on the drive ... more »

Added reply in a thread Why the fuck is setting chain tension and getting the God damned wheel straight with good tension such a pain in my ass? 6/7/2018 7:15 PM

Correct chain tension for quickest torque transmission and having cranks stay put is when you can only just feel the extra resistance compared to a loose chain. Any more than that and you are fighting the resistance every stroke and wearing things prematurely. ... more »

Added reply in a thread “American BB” that kinda isn’t? 20mm instead of 19MM! 6/5/2018 5:03 AM

To answer the thread starter's question, US BB inner diameter is 2" (50.8mm), so you might be right about 6204's (20 x 47 x 14), but 6004's are close too (20 x 42 x 12). Hopefully you haven't gotten rid of the old cups as you'll need them anyway to adapt ... more »

Some factory was doing 20mm, 8 spline spindle cranks for yeeeaaars that companies like SE and Torker ordered out of a catalog. It's actually the only spindle size you can get a Spanish bearing for anywhere, instead of having to get a BMX-specific one ... more »

Added reply in a thread Freecoaster issue? 5/15/2018 9:06 PM

With any threaded clutch coaster, variable or siper-excessive slack is always a resistance mechanism issue. This resistance mechanism (sprung balls for KHE style, butterfly spring for Nankai style) stops the clutch from rotating with the driver until ... more »

It's definitely a resistance mechanism issue

You can do things with incomplete bony union, like walk and pedal around (sitting down is probably their idea of it, as opposed to having to stand all the time due to a slammed seat if you have one), and healing bones respond well to a bit of it (part ... more »

While I'm at it too... While Profile has shipped some wobbly hubs straight from the factory here and there, most wobbly hubs of any brand are caused by either the spokes loosening the fit of the bearing seats (shit hub design or ridiculous spoke tension), ... more »

On the contrary, splined cranks with no pinchbolt will eventually wobble. The reason being that they are interference fit, but the interference required to set adequate preload to stop movement in the joint every half stroke is too big for the end user ... more »

They're not on the wrong side, unless the factory put the bodies on the wrong spindles (see the photos)
