Snapping 4 pairs should be enough to convince him. But if he wants to spend money on crap cranks that will snap, let him

That’s debatable. When they started they had no money. A lot of the footage was taken from the old big brother videos. Or was filmed around the same time. Just like all the stuff in the landspeed cky video, it was done with no budget, bam wasn’t even ... more »

Aaaah, your previous post says 13.25 😉 Which isn’t middle of the road. But I guess that’s considered pretty long at the rate things are going. 13.3 and 13.4 are almost identical. You can slam a 25 or 27t with 13.3. But you’d need to add half a link for ... more »

Ian Schwartz favoured powerbites too, and wasn’t even sponsored by primo

Added reply in a thread Primo powerbites 5/24/2019 6:29 AM

I remember back in the day profiles being pretty much the only option for 3 piece cranks (that were worth having) for a while. And when the powerbites came out they were the only alternative. They’re stiffer than profiles, and I don’t recall seeing any ... more »

Hahaha, you call the whammo middle of the road. I’d hate chainstays that short! I had an fbm hardway and just couldn’t get on with it. My current frame is almost atf geometry (74.5 head angle instead of 75 on the atf), my next is the same as an atf but ... more »

Added reply in a thread Opinions on parts 5/23/2019 11:29 AM

The feeling is from geometry. Shorter chainstays make it a lot easier to lift the front end, so it’ll feel like you’ll loop out easier. It it’ll feel lighter to handle. The actual weight is almost irrelevant. It’s about finding the right balance for ... more »

Added reply in a thread BB height on street frames vs trails frames 5/23/2019 10:22 AM

It’s always seemed odd to me too. But I think a lower bb is better for grinds, so it depends if the frame is designed with grinds in mind, or tech spinny stuff. Either way, it’s definitely something over looked by a lot of people when buying a frame. ... more »

Added reply in a thread Tree hub issues since I have bought it constant problems 5/22/2019 8:02 PM

This is exactly why anyone who buys and sells second hand parts should actually check every single item they try to sell. I’d never buy anything off someone that buys a bike, strips it, then flips parts without checking everything is exactly as it should ... more »

Added reply in a thread Chains discussion for 2019 5/22/2019 7:47 PM

Bsd forever chain is my go to. I hit my chain pretty often and rarely break a link. But putting a new link on is no problem, and the whole chain is cheap to replace. I was going to get an animal hoder chain, but I need a half link and thought it didn’t ... more »

Added reply in a thread Pivotal vs Tripod 5/22/2019 10:41 AM

The reason I went railed was after looking at my old pivotal too long and thinking it made my bike look like it had an over bite. I can’t unsee it, can’t go back now. It just looks goofy to me

If the mounts are removable, try some different aftermarket ones.

Added reply in a thread Reducing rotational weight 5/22/2019 5:50 AM

I’m thinking of getting alloy nipples. But I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone that isn’t confident with truing wheels as they strip fairly easily if you over tension the spokes. Very cheap, and save a fair bit of weight for the price

Added reply in a thread Pivotal vs Tripod 5/22/2019 5:19 AM

Even railed seats weigh barely anything, even with the post. So the weight argument is a bit invalid. Tripod seats only give 2 position options, and combos don’t give you any option at all. But with a railed seat you can literally put your seat however ... more »

Added reply in a thread Crank Puller Recs? 5/21/2019 1:18 PM

As long as you don’t unthread the bolt so much you’ll do damage to the threads it’ll be fine. Never hit the crank arm from the other side though. That’s asking for trouble.

Added reply in a thread Crank Puller Recs? 5/21/2019 1:13 PM

The thing in the middle of that picture is the crank puller. Take your bolt out, thread the puller in without the sleeve, and smack it with a hammer. If you don’t have it, just undo your bolt by a few threads and smack the bolt with a rubber mallet

Added reply in a thread Pivotal vs Tripod 5/21/2019 1:11 PM

More adjustability with a pivotal. But railed is the way forward. All the adjustability you could ever ask for
