I would go for the Stolen since it's chromoly. For what it's worth: I'm 49 and got back into riding in my early 40s. I have a 24" and two 20"s. For thrashing and tricks I definitely prefer riding a 20". It's actually easier on the body since there is ... more »
That a tough one to figure out - that frame didn't change much over the years. I'd say at the oldest it's a 1987. Before they they didn't have cable guides on the downtube which they continued until1992. The next year they had guides on the top and down ... more »
Oh, Joel Alamo? Guy had some great no-footed can-cans if I remember right.
Thanks! It's been a fun one.
I live in Kirkland, WA. What's the size of the pipe?
Amen! Yes the new geo and parts are SO much better riding. My daily rider is a modern retro Haro:
I'm around 5'10" and love a 21" frame so something longer like that or 21.75 should be good for you. I'm 49 and my personal preference is 2.4 tires front and back. I feel the fatter tires are easier on the body at my age.
I will say I have a WTP Atlas and have really enjoyed it. But...I feel like the components might be not so great. I have destroyed the front sprocket and the cranks in separate incidents. Like COMPLETELY destroyed. And I just ride around the street manualing, ... more »
Took me maybe 2 1/2 years or more to get comfortable with manuals. And the learning process was ups and downs - sometimes I thought I had it figured out and then I'd go into a slump. Like everyone else said, try them all the time. Keys for me: 1) Arms ... more »
This man is an inspiration!
Truth! And thus my screen name.
Yes, sir...I'm a middle-aged, Christian bmxer. I got a lot of gray hair and I think I think I might get some stares from people when I'm riding wheelies around the neighborhood, hehe. I think someone heckled me once with "That's a big man on a little
Looks good! Cool to see other people riding at 48! Like your sig too. I'm sure the more you ride the more you'll feel the right size for you. I'm trying to give the 2.2s some time after getting really used to 2.4s. Have fun!
I just switched to 2.2 tires on my main rider after running 2.4s for over 3 years. I definitely have had second thoughts about the change. It could be mostly in my head but landings feel less cushiony and manuals seem a little harder to balance. At 48 ... more »
Wow that thing is pristine!
47 here and I've been back into it for about 6 years now. As others have said...ease into it. It took my body a while to adapt but it is possible. The more you ride the more ability and confidence you gain. Progression is possible. Run some 2.4 tires ... more »
..and barefoot!
Hey welcome to bmx. I think the right place for that is over on https://bmxmuseum.com/ Check their forums. I also grew up riding in the 80s and am a big Haro fan. If you want to seriously ride the bike you might try to find one of the Haro lineage "modern retros" ... more »
