I watch a lot of videos. Believe it or not, it’s a pretty big part of my job. I watch so many that at times they blend together. It’s pretty rare that something really stands out, especially from a rider I’ve never heard of. I was shocked last week when I saw a new video from an Australian rider named Brock Horneman. I’d never heard of Brock for some reason, but his video was completely mind blowing. From flairwhip combos to insane nose manual lines, Brock’s skills are unfathomable.

I asked Brock a few questions to get a bit more familiar.

And, just for the record, I definitely know who Brock is now. Lesson learned.

Alright, Brock. Your new video was seriously mind-blowing. Why haven’t I ever heard of you?
Thanks, mate. Haha! I’m not too sure. I live in Australia and only really travel to the European contests like FISE and NASS, so I don’t get around too much.

Get idiots like me familiar. Where are you from? How old are you? How long have you been riding? Who do you ride for?
I’m nineteen, from Brisbane, Australia, and started riding BMX about five years ago.

Your style shares some similarities to some of the Australian badasses currently ruling the park scene. Who do you ride with on a regular basis?

Well, usually I would ride the GC Compound with Kyle Baldock, Logan Martin, Chance Brejnakowski, and Josh Mathews, as you probably could have guessed. But there’s a big crew of fifteen or so riders. We all ride together.

How much time went into the filming of this video?

I think the oldest clip in it is a year-and-a-half old. It took me so long because I was out with an injury for a few months and I was away traveling for a few months as well. But, most of the clips were filmed in the past three months.

What’s harder - a flairwhip to barspin or a flairwhip to no hander?

Haha! I’m gonna have to say flairwhip to no hander.

What trick in the video took the most tries to land?

The 360 tailwhip to inside whiplash took a good two hours of trying because I kept clipping the back wheel on the way in. As you can see in the video, my wheel is so close to clipping. Haha! But, the 360 barspin to barspin to inside whiplash… I spent probably forty minutes trying it and god super close, but I ended up calling it for another day. Then, I was probably trying it for a good forty-five minutes again before I got it. Not much beats the feeling when you land something you’ve been trying to ages.

What is more important in your eyes - filming a banging video like this one or winning a contest?

Hard question. Both things are insane, but I think winning a big contest would be amazing.

Do you have any new videos in the works?

Yes. When I get back to Australia next month, I start filming an edit for Vocal BMX. I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to do for this last video, but didn’t have the time. It’ll be good to finally get it done!

What’s next for you?

I’ll be in the UK for another few weeks and go to a contest called Boardmasters, then head back to Australia to film this video!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Just want to thank everyone who supports me and anyone that’s a fan of my riding!

Vital UK dude Chris Wilmshurst will be shooting with Brock this week. Expect to see a Power Hour hitting the site very soon...
