Should feel pretty much the same.
only advantage i can see in shorter cranks is so you're foot doesn't hit/sit on the back peg, if you have a short rear end/big feet

Shorter - less stable, snappier rotations, might help with barsins

Longer - more stable and sluggish

Would it also be less leverage on the spindle?
Might make them stronger if they are shorter I suppose

Theoretically yes, aswell as on the welds, but i don't believe that it would make that much of a difference. It also effects gear ratio, but again i don't believe it would effect it that much. That ones a question for dkTechEthan though, didn't he make a little gear ratio chart with crank length factored in?

I have size 10.5 feet and ride 13.0 chain stays with 180 mm cranks and I never hit my foot on my peg once ....everyone has
Their Own foot placement ......I'd suggest 175 for more leverage to go faster , my personal opinion

whats your gear ratio? if your used to 175mm, with a 25/9 setup, going to 165mm with a 25/9 is going to feel the same as a 175mm/27/9t, if you want to learn more about this, research Gain Ratios.

if you have shorter legs, I'd reccomend 165mm crank arms, it'll be easier on your legs(tho your crank rotations will increase) this means if you where on a marathon you'd be able to last longer vs somebody using the same gearing with longer arms. it'll also keep your body slightly higher off the ground when your pedaling, so your center of gravity will change slightly, it also will bring your feet closer to the bottom brackett, delivering more power closer to the bottom brackett for jumps, vs distrubuting the power over a larger area, like longer cranks would.

(to explain the whole power distrubition thing, stand with your feet just like you where about to bunny hop on the ground, and space them far apart, then try and jump, next put them side by side, and jump, should be clear which delivers more vertical push)

personally, shorter cranks imo are just better, it'll change your whole bike without much need if any to adjust your chain sight.
