The Summit Bechtel Reserve is looking for experienced MTB & BMX riders who are interested in spending a summer in the New River Gorge sharing the sport with active teenagers and adults. With 35 miles of XC and DH trails, multiple BMX racetracks, pumptracks, skills courses , dirt jumps and dual slalom courses, the Summit has something for everyone!

Position Concept:
Provide MTB or BMX instruction to participants of varying ability levels in order to improve their skills. Assist in the execution of meaningful bike programs for the National High Adventure Base as a means to develop leadership, character, citizenship and fitness in youth.

Location:
Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base, Glen Jean, WV

Principle Responsibilities:
Present a MTB or BMX program through cheerful, helpful and efficient service to all Summit guests. Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude to insure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Where possible solve their needs and concerns, where not possible, steer them to someone who can.
Assist in the set up and take down of the Summit Bechtel Reserve trails, tracks and other facilities
Properly inspect, appropriately use, and maintain all bicycles, equipment and supplies
Keep program areas safe, clean, and organized
Ensure the safety of all participants participating in MTB or BMX activities
Turn accurate paperwork in to supervisor in a timely manner
Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook
Participate in all camp-wide activities
 Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor

Qualifications & Training:
 Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
 18 Years old or older
 Have experience teaching mountain biking or BMX
 Have experience maintaining mountain bikes
 Have experience maintaining trails, tracks or dirt jumps
 Good organizational skills

Physical Requirements:
 Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve’s high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record
 Must be able to lift and handle materials weighing up to 70lbs
 Must be able to demonstrate proficiency riding a MTB or BMX bike
