Hey guys so i got a new sprocket tonight i picked the sunday sabretooth awesome lookin sprocket its a 25t so i was running a dk alpha 30t now i knew id have to take my chain down a few links but now im to the point if i add a link the rear wheel goes to far back and its a brand new chain i maybe rode a mile on it and if i take a link out its severley tight so i have everything on and chain is super tight i can still spin the crank and pedal but its just not as easy now my ?? Is will the chain stretch since it is a new chain? and how long do they take to stretch? And i know 25/9 is the standard but i dodnt want to go that route so is this a combo that works? And my chain being super tight will it stretch and give me a little slack?? Thanks guys

Order 1 half link of a danscomp or go to local bike shop and get a half link it should help thats prolly your best bet

Sounds like you need a half link. Just 1 of them though. Your chain will stretch as it's new, and the sprocket is new as well so it will be bedding itself into the sprocket, so those 2 things combine might make it so you would be able to remove a link and not have it so tight. But for now, I think a single half link will solve your problem.

As for how long it takes, that's all relative to how much you ride. If you ride it a lot it will wear the chain into the gear quicker thus stretching faster, but if you don't ride it a lot it will take longer.

Well wanted to let everyone know i picked up the half link today from my local bike shop in gburg and everything went together nice and smooth i got some slack in my chain again lol so thanks to everyone who helped much appreciated now i do have another question? I know the standard is 25/9 and im running 25/10 so what is this gearing good for i know it makes it much easier for my big ass to pedal and i like it better than all the speed i was getting with my 30t any coments or ideas are appreciated thanks guys-Justin

Never mind, I actually just seen your bike check. Haha. And I have a 24 inch bike, and its running a 25/9 gear ratio, and it rides so smooth. But with your bike being a 20 inch, I'm not sure how it would change. But I don't think it would be that big of a difference.

25/10 will be good for fast acceleration and hills, and not as good if you want to go really fast.

I hate 25/10. But I also like going fast as hell, and ride 30/9.

One halflink makes all the difference.
For gear ratio, 25x9 gives 2,7 and 25x10... 2,5 but in your case, I would run a 30t for the perfect 3.0 ratio. I personnaly run 28x9 (3.1 ratio) since years and I love it because I have a better top speed but even way more important to me, a better acceleration (with a bit of muscle) because to get the speed I want, I will do 3 full crank turns with my 28 instead of 5 with a 25 which can be problematic on tight spots.
Now, if you like easy pedaling better than acceleration and speed, that´s really good but I still wanted to explain gearing a bit because alot of people think 25x9 is better for low speed riding "more street" than bigger, but it´s not necessarly true for everyone.

i would HATE that gear ratio but i also ride long distances on my bike frequently, i like 27/9 but gear ratio is 100% preference and what you like so if that's better for you then keep it!
