Just curios what alot of you guys think the benefit of a smaller gearing would be? I run 28/10.
I know some poeple that run like 46,18. I like my ratio but is their really a benefit? I cant find one besides clearence.

i just see one benefit. small ´gearing less risk of damaging it on grinds.

Less stress on parts when you use the larger sprockets

larger sprockets make for less stress on the chain and other drive terrain parts and you can go faster, but with smaller sprockets you accelerate faster but don't get as high a speed and also creates more clearance for grinds etc.

Kinda this, BUT if you drop both down in an even ratio, the main benefits are less weight, and less chance of hitting it on stuff. An even ratio would feel almost identical.
44/16
39/14
36/13
33/12
30/11
28/10
25/9
22 OR 23/8

Are all pretty similar.

Downside is less teeth = more stress on the parts which = better chance of breaking/damaging from general wear and tear.

Pff. Get some road cranks from a road bike, 54/8 all day long.

Go 65 MPH are your ledge after a 6 block sprint to get it that fast.

Some newer frames dont clear bigger sprockets that well without shimming way out and causing bad chain alignment. Tried 33t on a Macneil Loden v1, didnt work. 30t just barely clears provided the sprocket is still straight.
I remember the days of 44-45/ 16 being normal. Broke less chains in those days too.
