Hi all new to this forum so hi everyone lol. Anyway quick question for you guys. I'm 24 years old father of 2 married etc. And did I mention bored to death. I used to mountain bike and skate but gave that up when I got married a job and college. I like my life but I miss a little action. Am I to old to start bmx it looks fun but when I look on YouTube and see some of the stuff a 10 year old can do I feel I missed the boat. Also a little nervous bc I usually go hard when I start at something. And I have metal plates in my arm and my leg holding everything together. So I guess my question is am I to old to start. And do you all think my arm and leg would be an issue. Also I found an excellent trek vert 2 not a scratch for 40 bucks with pegs that a good deal and good bike in mtb world there good bikea

No you aren't. Just get a bike and start riding. Also invest in some pads, and a helmet.

That bike is definitely a classic, it will be heavy by todays standards, but would not be a bad start. Then if you hate bmx somehow, you aren't out much.

You will want a bike, a helmet, and maybe some knee pads and shin guards to get started, and just go have fun.

And this is coming from a 29 year old father of one and married as well.

Ur definitely not too old to start. Im 29 and i still ride. Just get on ur bike and have fun. As far as ur arm and leg, that depends on how much u can handle. I would take it easy tho

Thanks for input guys really appreciate it. I don't really have a skate park used to till it got tore down. So with that said what kind of things should I focus on as a beginner bmx rider. If like to learn some tricks to but what's good basics.

Start by just riding around and getting comfortable with the feel of ur bike. Learn proper bunnyhop technique and practice it daily. Try manuals when ur riding around until u get comfortable holding that position. Bike control is key and over time tricks will come naturally.

Thanks for input guys. As far as bike goes is it a good starter bike. There's no problems with it at all. Looks like it was just purchased. I don't know to much about it besides it's a 2004. And I know trek from the mountain bike community. I was gonna buy a new bike from a shop but after seeing the trek I changed my mind. For 40 bucks I thought it'd be junk but when I got there it looked great a lil heavy yes but I'm used to manhandling a mountain bike so it seems light to me

Just ride around your street(s) practicing 180's then 180's off gutters, manuals, hoping on your back wheel, footjams, footjam whips etc..., whatever you can find people doing on youtube and whatever you think of. Make YOUTUBE your go to thing for INSPIRATION and ADVICE.

And remember this sport takes a bit of time and consistency to get things down

At your level it doesn't matter to much with the trek but in the future you don't want to buy a bike or parts from a company that isn't just a BMX company. I didn't even know trek made bmx's?! If you want an honest opinion, that bike is scrap metal even at 40

If i'm right you american's have a classifieds website called craigslist. You could go on that and i'm sure you could find a much better bike for 100 or more that you could trust more. Before investing time and money spend a bit of time doing some reasearch on here and on google about what brands to stay away from and what is good and bad etc... but don't go nuts coz your just starting out so you don't have to be an expert or ride top of the line bikes. When buying a bike the more chromoly the better! With today's technology you don't want to start off in a new sport riding weak outdated equipment

While I agree with this, the bike he got will work fine for cruising and hopping. And 100 for a bike even on craigslist is a challenge to find that would be remotely better than what he has.

Trek actually had Simon Tabron on their team in the early 00s busting 900s on vert. They did some decent stuff, but quit bmx like a lot of bigger companies did in the early to mid 00s cause rider owned companies started popping up and they had direct input from their riders, making their products less "mass produced" and with input directly, they could change things in BMX for the better. However it also meant less money in BMX.

Yeah It would be just fine to learn the basics, but will soon become hard with a 40 pounder. It's still a very old hiten steel bike.

Didn't no that about trek, I guess the same thing happened to giant, saw a nice bmx from them some kid had when i was still at school a few years ago. Have never seen a another one from giant since.

No your not too old, go for it!

I'm 39 and started riding again a few years back

Do it!

Buy a used complete or custom from pink bike, gumtree etc, you can pick up a decent BMX for a good price

Or do what I did and build your own custom BMX

Hey, I'm 28 and just starting.... Haven't ride a bmx bike in 13 years, and when I did it was just to move around...

But I think age is not a factor, you have to realize that there are thousands of people that ride better than you, and thousands that ride worse than you...

And take it easy, pros and the guys from here make it look super easy haha
