So next month I plan on ordering a custom rear wheel because the cassette on my stock Fit wheel doesn't suit my needs. I like accelerating fast and this 3 pawl driver skips on me occasionally and doesn't engage fast enough. I was checking out the colony wasp. Sounds like exactly what I want...female axles, 6 pawl, yet doesn't lag when coasting and is peg friendly. I'm not interested in the WTP because the ability to switch to LHD is unnecessary so it's pointless to pay for that. The profile elite is way too expensive, has a lot of lag when coasting and isn't too peg friendly. That's how I've narrowed down to the colony but I see this alienation thrust but it's not available yet and I don't want to rush and buy the colony if the alienation hub will end up being superior. Has anyone heard anything about it more than I can find online? (I've searched). I've read enough about the wasp that it seems pretty damn solid. Please keep posts relative to the fact that I want extremely dependable engagement, I ride street with pegs (and non-drive side guard), and I want fast acceleration with minimal drag. Trying mostly to compare the alienation thrust with the colony wasp. Cheers!

Pretty limited to hubs
I wouldn't trust those hubs

You can always upgrade to a bigger sprocket so less pedaling and more speed

The Colony Wasp doesn't seem that great.
3/8" female bolts = not grind friendly
shemale axle = limited guard options

The Alienation Thrust seems great though. Oversized thrust bearing which is fooking awesome, offset pawls to offer maximum engagement and minimum slipping. 14mm male axle for peg users. Majority of people on here will tell you to avoid Alienation, but they do make REALLY good parts, aswell as REALLY bad parts. This is definitely one of their good parts. It has a solid and simple design with a few added features to ensure it lasts a long time and works top notch. I really like the offset pawls, this means while 3 pawls are engaged, the other 3 are waiting to engage. There should be very little to absolutely no slack with this design.

The WTP Supreme is a great hub. Youre not paying for the switch drive option, youre paying for the 14mm Female axle and oversized bearings. This would be your all around strongest option due to the axle, but I dont believe it has that high of engagement.

The amount of engagement comes from the ratchet ring, not necessarily the pawls. You can have a 3pawl hub with a 30tooth ratchet ring and it will engage just aswell as a 6pawl driver in the same hub. If you were to put a 50tooth ratchet ring in that hub, THEN the engagement would increase. The only exception to this is the Alienation because of the offset pawls, so the extra 3 pawls actually DO make the difference.

The only thing more pawls usually help with is pawl life and slippage. More pawls = less stress on each one, aswell as having more pawls engaged at one time, so if one or two pawls manage to skip it will go unnoticed since all the other pawls are still engaged.

The guys at Alienation are really smart engineers and never rip off other companies. Everything they put out is flawless and well designed. I really like their aluminum coaster driver and clutch. Typically people worry about aluminum teeth wearing down too fast, but an aluminum clutch has completely removed the hub's ability to function, therefore the teeth won't wear down ever. They're really, really smart, and I'm really jealous. Also, their Vault stem with machining everywhere just shows off their amazing ability to create unique looking parts that are more than ready for all kinds of riding, as long as it is light street and nothing more. Also, no one at Alienation will ever get butthurt and threaten to beat you up when you talk about their products.

Truly an amazing company.

Get a ratchet no need for instant engagement in street you need instant engagement for race and if you ride beastly trails then there too, but not in street

Thanks for the lesson. Perhaps I'll investigate the WTP more because slippage and pawl life are very much concerns of mine.

My bike is my primary form of transport and I live in a major metropolitan city where I'm often racing taxis and such off stop lights or have to accelerate quick to avoid getting hit by a car so instant engagement is more important to me than someone who just uses their bike for tricks otherwise I'd go for the ratchet without question. There's not much worse than accelerating hard in traffic and having a pawl skip or trying to come out of a standstill and be at the max before engagement with a bunch of angry rush hour cars behind you haha

The fact that you typed this in all italics leads me to believe that this statement is 100% true.
I'm gonna buy 5 of them and break them all just so I can deal with their customer service repeatedly. Sounds wonderful!

You won't regret getting either of them but I'd go with the BSD out of the two.

BSD is 3pawl with similar engagement to a Ratchet, I dont believe its what youre looking for. I am not sure if WTP is much better. I truly believe the Alienation is the way to go here, unless you find out the engagement is high on the Supreme. Shadow BTR is something to consider, it has similar engagement to say a Primo Mix. Really smooth, rarely skips, but still has a tiny bit of slack.
The engagement in Shadow/Primo/Cult hubs is my personal favorite since it has quick and smooth engagement with just enough slack for fakies and pedal pressure tricks.

Dammit. Just saw this post after I placed my order. Bumping an old thread to update.
Ordered the BSD pro (their anti-skip pawls and reputation for being tough as hell sounds like it will be a drastic improvement). Got the BSD front and rear hubs laced to odyssey 7kAs to lighten my rotational weight a bit. Pretty stoked. Never ridden on an aftermarket driver.
Cheers
