I want to start racing and want a few tips
@ tomdon really true, i recommend a normal bmx so you can try out trails, street, park, and race
otherwise, most people do freestyle, so check the race section of bmx forum

I raced all the way to McDonald's @ 10:25am this morning to get a double sausage & egg muffin meal, if that counts.
Got there just in time, happy daze.
Freestyle is the answer to everything --
a fresh way to approach a dull or a
dangerous thing.
to do a dull thing with style
is preferable to doing a dangerous thing
without it.

I like the idea of it although I doubt I will ever be good enough as actual racers, I've tired some pump runs at a few skateparks that have track style flow lines, it's definitely fun but I doubt anything can beat the real deal, just buy a trails bike and build some race style pump track somewhere

I tied freestyle in a park, but it is illegal to ride bikes at our skate park I soon learned, being harrased by the cops and threatened with a 250 dollar fine and confiscation of my $300 dollar intense bike. (that I earned)
I just wanna get a race bike and ride street on it for a day. Hopping a 4 set would probably bend some of the stuff, if not, they'll snap if they're super flimsy titanium. Bailing would bend my bars, crankslides would bend the crank arms, peg grinds would bend both axles in no time (also titanium). It would seriously be fun though if I had the money or something. xD

Tried it when I was younger. Eh, I never came in first and quit after a couple races. Theres two tracks fairly close to me so if I ever come upon a deal on a cheap race bike I might start again. I rode my regular park bike there and wasnt as bad as I thought I was going to be with 25/9.

I'm not sure why you're saying Titanium is super flimsy and will bend. Titanium is extremely hard, which however in turn makes it very brittle and prone to snapping. It is very hard to bend Ti.

Yeah, I thought about it right after typing but I was too lazy to edit it. Yes, you're asolutely correct. Titanium is brittle but it's like the strongest metal. That's why heavy/rough street riders don't run titanium parts. They don't bend but they'll just snap.

Exactly, which is why Ti Spokes are pretty good for lighter riders; if you don't ride hard enough to snap them, your wheels should stay pretty true.

I doubt I can help you out seeing as how I haven't raced in a few years (Made it to the expert class), but like everyone says "Just try it out and see if you like it". Nothing beats sitting up at that starting gate while the adrenaline is pumping through you waiting for that gate to drop... It's priceless.
