I always thought 300 and more was way too much for a frame. Recently all the really good frames are at least 300-350. When the ltf came out at 400 i was like wow 400 for a frame.
I got good and got myself a s3.5(i had way too much money at the time lol)
But now i've was on dans and colony frames are like 440$
I just think over 350 is alot and i dont see why all the frames are becoming more expensive. I know that they are worked on more but i mean 440$ for a frame is fuck expensive. So when are the 500$ coming out?
why is colony so expensive fuck i really want their crank and hub

just like everything else, prices go up. with minimum wage goin up as well, everything else will go up. when i first started riding i bought a complete bike, full chromo for 200 bucks. now your looking to spend at least 325. of course, bikes are better now. but 400 for a frame is insane.

even within the past year prices have gone up alot in july 07 i bought a fit am for 250 brand new and it was decent it really had no bad parts other then wheel set and cranks/bb now you cant get a fit for less then 350 and the frames arent even as good now

frames also may be gettin better but its retarded for them to cost any more then 400 tops people may not have money and no matter how much better the stuff gets if you cant pay for it then you wont be buyin it 400 is alot for a frame anything more is rediclous

one shop told me it is because the price of metal is going up plus the fact that frames nowadays go through alot of butting, heattreating, and other proceses, which raises the price to manurfacter. (haha... spelling)

more tech = more money
that's it

The cost of metal and the specified manufacturing of the frames with the butted tubing, heat treating, and machining all play a major role in the cost of frames going up. Also, if people want a particular frame, they are gonna pay. Plain and simple. It doesn't help that people are wanting all the light frames that require all the extra processes and whatnot. it is inflation. Everything costs more. I remember when I started riding that the most expensive frame was like 350 bucks. Metal bar ends were about 5, and Profile Cranks with BB were under 150. It's just going to get worse, so make your parts last.

has to do w/ inflation and plus the cost of steel has pretty much increased like 1000% over the past decade

like most other stuff though, you get what you pay for

Most shops mark up parts anywhere from like 40 to 80 percent, so if a part costs them 100 bucks, they will charge generally 140 to 180 for it, some shops will charge more though

seriously this is hella true. i thought i was the only one who noticed. Its so ridiculous and they expect us kids to fork out 400+ for a frame. My mountain bike friends say that its just gonna get worse and eventualy bmx is gonna b expensive like mtb stuff
