You just inherited the ownership to DansComp. What's your first course of action and what are your plans for the future? What something you wouldn't do anymore? What's something you would do a lot more? I would have at least one shop in every state. I would fund shipping on every day of the week. I would build DansComp parks! They would be amazing parks made for bikes! I would create a forum on the site! And I would try to sell more DVDs and create more DVDs.

I would probably go bankrupt instantly. I change my set up every month as is. I dunno what I would do if I could select from any part i wanted. First thing I'd do is take a good chain breaker since I don't have one.

Idk how much business sense your plan has in it Stocksy. It is successful because there's only one serving the entire USA plus some other countries. Albes is the same way. There are really only a handful of mail order shops in the US, and half of those aren't trustworthy. I think maybe a warehouse on the west coast to speed shipping times to the Cali boys would help. I have ordered shoes that didn't even come from who I ordered through, they came directly from the Distro, probably to keep me from having to wait and to keep overhead down.

VICTORY SHALL BE MINE!!!!! But honestly, i would just buy off all the other online stores, make the monopoly over the entire thing, charge lower prices due to my higher selling rate, talk the distributors into lowering their prices and make everything a lot more affordable, that way BMX could take off a lot better. I like that shops in every state idea. I think itd be cool to have like a small shack-like workshop that is only open if someone calls the guy to open it up and you can get your bike part. Fix the bike shop, maybe a few completes too. Nice idea. Parks would cost a LOT. I think that they should get the entire Dans team to travel all over America and do all sorts of demos, pick up a few extra riders, maybe brind BMX to a lot of people that had no idea what it is. They could bring ramps and boxes and junk and let kids shred them with the pros, that would be a kind thing to do. Expensive if they were to travel everywhere, but i think i could figure out the whole thing. I would also have like 13 different bikes.. haha i would also do a line of bikes that i built up and call it Maximillion Bikes and have bikes with the best setups, with the best quality parts and each would be powder coated a special color you dont see much. They would be the highest quality bikes you can buy. I would do payment plans towards bikes for the broke ass kids. Like hey, you want a new bike to start out on, okay, pay me 100 down on it, and each month pay 50 bucks til you have paid it off. Itd do a lot of great things for BMX, because let's face it, a lot of people cant afford a nice bike these days, a lot of people dont even know what BMX is, and itd really help the entire industry.

I know nearly nothing about business. I plan to take business classes next year though! pinch grin

I just think that would be cool to have more shops! And a Dans park? That would be sweet! You told me you don't really ride park but still man, just to have a high quality park that that has something for every type of rider to enjoy has to sound good too you!

It would be sweet if they did shows like Mat Hoffman's Sprocket Jockeys did back in the day! Just get the whole Dan's team and a few others to go on a huge trip with anything they would want to ride and film the whole thing! That would cost a lot but it would be cool! I'm not really sure the price of all of these ideas, I know the park would cost a lot of money and a lot of time though. This is just my kind of fantasy, rules and money constraints don't exist! Haha

It would be sweet to do a trade in type deal, where you could trade up for a better bike, then your old one would be fixed up for a kid who trades a Walmart bike in, and so on. I like the traveling idea. That hasn't been done with much media coverage in a long time. I believe if you hired the right publicist and ad agencies, BMX could be made big again like it was.

I like the trading idea! It would be nice if Dan's would spend a lump sum of money on commercials and then do a big competition and try to build things back up. I suppose that's easier said than done though.

Getting BMX to boom again would require companies to be in it for the long haul. Investing in publicity, not just trying to throw ten sig frames out there with only slightly different geo. it can also be rough trying to guess what frames and stuff people will want and keeping them in stock.
Could you imagine selling 350 BTM's in a two month period, so you order 100 more and only sell 15? Then you gotta eat the projected profit for those 85, and maybe even sell them at a loss.

When I ordered my G7 frame from Albes, I didn't get a shipping confirmation for about a week. ( I also had ordered black Ribcages to red BSD Frontstreet/ Backstreet, and they were built and ready to go in a couple days) But when I ordered the Redline frame, not only fid they have to order it, but they were probably shocked, since you guys know Redline probably isn't their biggest selling frame, lol.

BMX has never been as popular as skateboarding. And idk why!? My opinion and this is speaking from experience, skateboarding is much more difficult to learn. Here in Oklahoma when you talk about bmx people look at ya crazy... and i can remember growing up in NY and being into both. I knew who Hoffman was before i knew who Tony Hawk was... there is not enough advertising. And defiently not enough places to ride. Hoffman has made a huge effort building a nice park in Oklahoma City. But why cant other pros do the same for there home state? I wouldn't change anything about DansComp... i think its a well oiled machine.. but they need to step up to the plate about a few issues.. like building parks and getting kids interested in bmx again.. just my opinion.

Every time I tell people I ride bikes they assume I mean motorcycles. The other day I saw one of my old teachers and he saw that I had my cast on and he said "What'd you do to your leg there, Will?" I said "I fractured my foot riding my bike." and he said "You mean dirt bike or your pedal bike?" I said "My bicycle." and he said "I would have been more impressed if you said dirt bike. Maybe you should lie about that next time." I didn't realize my old teacher was an asshole until that moment right there. He wouldn't think it was so 'unimpressive' if he saw how I hurt my foot.

I LOVE THAT TRADE IN IDEA!! :D hopefully it wouldnt be like that gamestop thing where you trade in like a billion games and get 9 dollars. I dont play games and stuff but i always hear people complaining about it.

And yep. Anyone that doesnt know me and i tell them i ride bikes, they always act the same way. The way i see dirtbikes is that someone is LAZY. On an actual track or something, yeah it is hard, but just riding where i see them ride is sooo easy. "HEY JIMBOB!! GUESS WHO JUST DID A HILLCLIMB AND FELL IN SOME MUD THIS TIME!!!??" that is how i see it. I rode dirtbikes like a few times so far, i dont plan on it ever again as i find it stupid, and a hill climb is merely a leaning forward, and shifting a bit, it's simple.

I dont like living in WV especially because they are all hicks. I think MTV would embrace that. Get some of the "cooler" pros and just make a reality show about a traveling BMX program. It woiuld open the world up for BMX and let them in parks and maybe get a few foundations going for it.

Id say, "Dugan, Ross, Reynolds, Sylvester, Roche, and Churchill would all be pretty crazy to be on a show." all have a cool style of riding, and a personality, of course there would be other pros too. Just an idea, anyone wanna expand on it?

This is a weird way to put it but they could make it like Jersey Shore. Just have all these awesome riders come together and stay in one place and ride and do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted! It would be like the Day in The Life videos but it would be whole seasons!

I would give deals to LBS so they can some success, as well as expand it to MTBing and Skateboarding, i would buy out Albes and sell more of a variety of items as in videos and clothing. as for clothing i would allow people to custom design there own shirts with whatever brand or design they wanted as well as use FedEx instead of the US mail for faster shipping

The clothing idea is great! That would be awesome to be able to create your own shirt! And then maybe they could have contests where whoever makes the coolest shirt gets to have it sold by Dans and gets a gift certificate or something!

So your answer to "What would you do?" in this scenario would be, "Run the company straight into the ground."

Nice add on about the contests. I would laugh if the owner of dans is reading this and actually uses the idea.

Quick question for you guys..... So I just found out today that there is a pretty local bike shop near me that opened up a few months ago. Although from their FB page it LOOKS like they only sale road bikes. Was thinking about going in tommorow and seeing if they sell any bmx stuff and if they don't I was thinking about convincing them to get into the BMX industry... I guess I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks more to support a local LBS... You guys think if they don't sell bmx stuff the'd be inclined to start selling??
