"BMX is about the ride"

As long as you're having fun, nothing else matters. It's about how you feel when you ride. Or it could just mean focus on the riding and not all the other "mainstream" bullshit

Coming from the MTB world, where bike parts and maintenance are a huge deal I always wonder if this means that in BMX world we get to focus more in riding rather than wrenching. I do know for me that this is the case....on my MTB I am constantly monitoring gear, little sounds , clanks etc that might lead to disaster on the ride. On my BMX, I just get on and go...less things to fall apart or lose...

I also feel like on my MTB, I have to think more about communicating with the bike to navigate the trail since it changes in milliseconds...in BMX world the bike sort of melts into me, and it is just me thinking about the lines I am taking because the "trail" is smaller, flatter and changes less

Well to me that just means that bmx is all about having fun and enjoying the freedom bmx gives you.

Fun is the main theme here!! I mean that's why we all ride, right??

Disagree. Its not just about the ride, it's about everything that comes with it. The feeling when you unpack a new part, the fact you can bond with a complete stranger just over a simple small bike no matter where in the world you are, the whole community that has developed online, watching your favourite riders new fire dvd part, seeing how dope that new tee you just bought from 'x' bmx company looks on you etc etc. The 'ride' will always be the main reason why so many people ride, the reason that got them into it in the first place, but BMX is about so much more than just the ride.

word... the ride is part of the culture for sure!

just had a second thought, that the ride isnt you going out and riding your bike, but the journeys you go on because on bmx, the trips, nights out, early morning sessions, all of it, from not being able to bunny hop, to throwing a tripple whip and hucking a huge roof gap. its all about the ride to get there.
