I bought a BSD street front hub back in May to replace my Vandero hub. I would have to say that was my best decision ever for my front wheel. This front hub is the best i have ever rode.
Axle Design
This hub has a 15mm chromoly heat treated center axle. I think by using a chromoly axle makes the axle way stronger than any alloy axle. This axle has yet to deform from over tightening or anything. I can tighten my front wheel so much and it still spins like it under no pressure.
Bolts
This hub has female bolts that use a 17mm wrench to loosen the hub with which is great because its the standard/ it also has a 6mm broach on the middle of the bolt. They are just standard bolts. The only thing i could say would be to make where the wrench gets put on, is to make that area thicker. The wrench has a tendency to slip off when tightening under a lot of pressure.
Hub shell
The hub shell is 6061-T6 alloy. This makes a strong yet affordable hub. The BSD logo is etched into the hub shell pretty deep which gives it a unique look.
Hardware
The hardware is press fit cone nuts, which creates a smooth and clean design. They have a rubber o-ring in them which makes it really hard to take off.
Hub guard
The hub guard is a 2 piece design made from 7075 alloy inside with a high density plastic over the alloy. This hub guard just replaces one of the cone nuts or even both sides for the people with 2 front pegs. The only thing is the plastic overtime deforms and hits the spokes if you don't rotate it. Nothing a little sandpaper can not fix. Also the hub guard is supposed to clip together and be one but over time the plastic will not clip to the metal which is complete fine because it just sits there.
Overall Review
I would give hub a 9.5/10.
Pros
Cheap
Strong
Spins forever no matter how tight the bolts are.
Specifically made hub guard for it
Cons
Cone nuts a bit hard to get off but nothing a screwdriver cant do with some leverage.
The hub guard plastic piece hitting spokes
The axle bolts need to be a bit taller for wrenches.
I have had his hub for 5 months and it still spins like day one. I would recommend this hub to anyone. I would even recommend it over a profile or gsport (let the hating begin). Thanks for reading my review.
