Bail Technique

Sorry for doing two threads, couldn't incorporate them into each other.

So, we all fall sometimes, and some people really really eat shit. Some seem to get out of everything with ease.

I like to think I'm one who bails properly. So many kids fuck up relentlessly. Some call it a 'stage fall' but all it is is defusing the energy properly. I see people fall and jam themselves up.

For me, it works like this; one, lose the bike. don't bring it with you, it's most likely the worst thing to do. Half of the falls I see that end badly, people just don't let go. They cling on for some weird reason. Two, when in doubt, roll out. Not on your tires, if you've got momentum built up, you HAVE to find a way to not just take it straight to a joint or contact point. Rolling away properly can save your life, Usually, practicing things like shoulder rolls or tiger rolls or something can save your ass. Three, the slow, painful bails. When you're grinding or looping out, try to land lightly on your feet or if your ass is kissing the ground, when you land, don't do the spongebob ass breaking thing, roll back and mind your neck.

That's how I usually save myself. Obviously there are some you can't predict or feel coming but 9 times out of ten this works perfectly well. It'll keep you riding for longer better.

Does anyone else think about bailing out properly? Do any of you guys have friends who eat shit? Do you believe in a technique for bailing?

I think about it because I'm slowly figuring out how to just ditch my bike. Small falls hurt more the older you get

I don't really think there is a technique for bailing but I understand what you mean. I usually just do what feels right and usually only ditch the bike if it is going really bad.

its more reflex than technique but heres what i do
figure out the most likely way ill fall, then how im most likely to get rekt (not clearing the frame and getting brought down with the bike etc) and then just do it and go from there

Im usually pretty good about getting out of falls, it comes naturally. I have a friend who just can't seem to fall without eating shit, one time he wanted to nose bonk this ledge that is maybe three feet off the ground and he didn't commit but then he rode his bike straight down into the ground. It was painful to watch. I'll try to find the clip.

Usually when I fall it's so fast I only realize it when I'm on the ground . It seems I always tuck my head in , I think as a biker / skater it's remoted in our brains , tuck your neck and you'll be good

I ate shit a lot when I was younger, but now I weigh everything up before I even try it. I'm not scared to chuck my bike so that's usually what I do first and 9 times out of 10 I land gently on my feet and walk out of it. If it's something unexpected I still let go of my bike without having to think about it, I let myself fall, then just roll with the momentum.

Over thinking how you're going to fall is a big put off though, sometimes I imagine a worst case scenario and it puts me off trying something completely

It also helps to not be 256 lbs. Bigger dudes sometimes have a harder time not just dumping it hard.

Yeah, i have all mine sort of lined up. Like if i feel this happening i'll do this. If i have this happen do this. I trust myself to pull the trick most times, i just gotta have the confidence and I can do it.

That's been a problem my entire life. Confidence. If I believe i can do it and commit, i will do it.
