Bar Sizing & Sore Sessions: Some Help Needed

Normally I don't ask questions about parts or size but I've recently came across some problems. I bought a new bike to replace my beginner one last month and I'm using a 8.75" handlebar rise.
I'm between 6' and 6' 1" and I've been feeling a bit sore (my spine is kinda bad so I'm frequently leaning forward when sitting) after a few sessions and I was thinking about buying a new pair of bars to help myself from being too hunched to aid my spine problem (scoliosis?). I plan on keeping a front load stem but I wasn't sure how much I should go up in bar sizings.

Feel free to leave links.

sounds like you probably want some 10's or 11'z and try flipping the stem.

I'm between 6' and 6'-1" tall as well. I run a minimal dust cap, no spacers, a mid rise topload, and 8.5" bars. It's perfectly fine for me. The taller your front end gets, the lower your hops get, generally speaking. But if you do want more rise, it'd be better to get a tall top load stem than taller bars. Taller bars add weight, are weaker and will slip more. Tall top load stems get your front end higher with none of these down sides. 8.75" is as tall as I would go for bars. Anything higher can be added using a taller stem or spacers.

Alot of its personal preferance. try flipping the stem or a top load if not look into a pair of Fit savages or S&M perfect tens/Fu Bars.

Higher bars will help, flip your stem with what you are riding now and see how that feels. Flipped frontload should give you about an inch of rise.

Nahh, i don't actually think hops get lower, it's an important thing. I'm like 5'10" and have run 9 inchers before. With a frontload of course and it didnt affect my hops much at all, not a huge difference in height though, from 8.5 with a topload to 9 inchers with a frontload, but there is definitely a difference. Like barspins change.

But really i only like my bars the height they are now like 8.5 with a high topload. I'm not the tallest or the shortest. It's all personal preference.

You might get used to it, but a taller front end will cause your bars to end up in your lap sooner, and you'll get less height on your hops. It's a minimal difference, but it's there and it's noticeable.

Majority of all butted bars on the market and similar in weight, some bigger are even lighter. The differences are so minimal youre not going to notice a difference unless riding straight gauge bars like 11's or 10's and even so, its still not a problem. As for strength, weight, performance, reliability...no matter what size you get, I guarantee as long as buying a well known brand, you wont have any problems. Im 6'4, have rode 10 and 11 rise bars since coming out and never have I had my bars slip, crack, break, bend...etc. The weight causes no hindrance and they feel more solid then lighter butted bars. I highly recommend Tree bars bar as well.

OP, I see a lot of people with your height happy in the 9.5- 10 rise area. It is personally preference though, Im sure as you go higher, later in time youll probably go up a size as well. Goodluck on your search.

I was going to stick with a front load because I wanted to buy the animal FL stem and I currently have a Haro Lineage as a stock one. But Éclat's Mercury stem is pretty sleek and tall, also their new Dive bars come in a 8.9" which isn't over 9" and in the 8" range like my current set, would that work?

As someone who has gone from 8.5-11 rise bars I can say my hops and performance are beyond better with higher bars. I have much more control, comfort.....etc

Yeah, a lot of taller bars are coming out with more reasonable weight, but the most popular ones are over 40 ounces which is ridiculous imo. And if you take two sets of bars that are identical in all respects other than height, the smaller ones will be stronger and will slip less. I know in reality it isn't a huge difference, but why not go for the best, most efficient setup? Unless you're 6'-6" or taller, you don't need to max out your steerer tube, use a huge topload AND have 9"+ bars.

And yes, OP, get Tree bars. Definitely the best bars on the market. Super strong, look great, and the threaded bar ends are awesome. Definitely worth the extra dollars.

I tried a pretty huge front end setup once, Fit Mac bars and a Challenger... I found it was easier to pull up, but my hops were quite a bit lower and I felt like I had less control. It was more comfortable, but it wasn't worth it. But I love my FBM frame with a 74 headtube and 14" rear end so I guess you could say I prefer a more stable bike haha.

The lap thing isnt the big problem. The thing is how the bike spins and turns actually. Its weird how it affects manuals too.

I'm currently looking at the Éclat Dive Bars which come in 8.6" / 8.9" / & 10" rise. I like the brand and the simplistic look of the decals and design, that's the size factor I'm looking at. The other thing is the Animal FL Stem because of the purple color way that Match the RS Rims but I was looking at the Éclat Mercury because of the design and the rise. Wouldn't a topload stem and a 10" be overkill?

I once rode 11's with a 33mm rise stem., felt amazing on my back..I could ride/cruise for hours with no pain. Problem though it wasnt in my comfort control area. From being so high, it made the bars feel thin as well as the tire. Perhaps if I rode it longer I would of adapt but during so, had no time for that :p

Discs in my spine are all messed up from being hit by a drunk driver.

You have to consider bar height along with stem height. A 10" bar/front load combo will be close to the same height off of the ground as a 9" bars and a high top load. Im 6'1 and ride a sunday freeze with 10" BSD Raider bars and love it. I feel my hops are higher than with my old 8.5/freeze combo. Like any bike part, you will adjust and get use to it. I would definitely go 10" with that front load.
