My son wants to buy some new bars and is wondering if slightly bigger bars will help him land 360's more cleanly, i.e. less pivot. If so, what are some good bars 8.5-8.75 rise for under 70 dollars?

Probably not. Bigger bars made everything harder for me. I'd wouldn't go over 8.5". I'd recommend going all out and getting Tree Motos with 4 upsweep. Really, really strong, and an amazing warranty. Plus threaded bar ends, which are a plus.

Rise won't make a difference for 360s. Width will mae a difference though. Doesn't mean if he gets Wider Bars he'll get them cleaner though, but it's possible.

higher rise bars only helped my back not hurt as much. didnt help me on any tricks

I'm on the vital legit list!

what size should he get?
he's 5ft 4 inches and currently riding animal bob scerbo 3.0's which are 7.75 with a frontload stem.
also, so he can hop a little higher, he can hop decent but he wants to get hops to stem height

Pick up a Sunday Freeze topload stem. That will raise his bars quite a bit and is cheaper than buying new bars.

Also, Scerbos are insanely good and hard to find now, so he shouldn't get rid of them.

He should be good with the Scerbos and the stem. The stem will add around half an inch, probably.

Bigger bars won't really help.
But yeah those bars are damn good.

Also, he has been complaining that his frame ( 20.75) is making it hard for spin tricks etc. Instead of buying a new frame, could a smaller frame effect be achieved by getting a madera mast tl because they come in as short as 36 mm, and they have around the same rise as the sunday freeze?

A shorter length stem like the 36mm stems will make his bars feel abit taller due to him not being stretched out to far.

Bigger bars and stuff won't make him ride insanely better but bars/frames/stems with better geo will make riding easier

It's all in his head. No part you can buy will make him magically be able to do the things he can't do now. You could spend $2000 on a new bike but it won't make him better.

Also, shorter frames technically make spins easier because of the shorter wheelbase, stems won't help that. However, like I said before, it won't help him.

Tell him just to practice because better parts won't make you ride better. I'm pretty sure most people on vital started out on crappy walmart bikes, or at least I did

he's short as hell. he's a young child. his frame is potentially too long and the sunday stem is also long.

taller bars really sound like a bad idea.

think about it. Pro riders are pretty much full grown adults. Do you really think your son should be riding the same size parts as a full grown adult?

There are exceptions to every rule but I'd say his frame is too long and he should not get taller/wider bars.

He SHOULD just ride his bike and have fun and YOU (dad) should buy a bike and ride with him.

Or take his bike and get him a smaller one.

Yeah, I ride with him, its pretty fun and it sounds like i'll just have him progress and when he has some money and can do more stuff, he can buy a chromo frame
I really appreciate the help

If you still want to id probably trade for some fiend 8.5 inch bars

|

7/2/2013 8:21 PM

kink lynx bars would be good for his size but will be a little expensive

|

7/2/2013 8:54 PM

No, I can 360 with 7.3x22 inch bars and I'm 5'8. It's practice and technique a short frame would maybe help some but I don't know.
